HP ProLiant MicroServer

i think your POA, is to try openelec 1.02 with your current setup i.e. 210.

Next step will be too rule out the card. You'll have to either ask for a swap out or borrow someone's LP card. The 520 and 5450 definitely work.

When i was researching my setup, i read that the fanless 210 was slightly too big for the microserver. Maybe the card isn't plugged in tightly.

I have rotated between 1.02, XBMCbuntu 11.0 and Windows 7 a couple of times with the same result.

My 210 is fan cooled, and very slim. I have checked the hardware, seating of the card etc. already.
i will just have to bite the bullet, and get that 520. Any particular manufacturer that plays nice with HP, openelec ?

my one from esquire works fine
its a POV iirc

there was a problem with the audio/video drivers on 1.95.3. The issue was reported on github and then fixed in 1.95.5

Audio initialization fail after display sleep forcing a reboot, toggle audio settings, reboot, to get it working again. Was very frustrating.

ok. My machine never sleeps, so that doesn't bother me.

.4 had annoying green flashes on screen intermittently, and .5 just looked horrible from the initial reports...

Hi Robocop, just quickly browsed through your posts. I'm running Openelec 1.95.5 on the N36l with the 210 just fine :D Have you tried the custom audio config file (sure the details are on the openelec forum)

I have tried everything that was suggested on the forums with the same result. I really starting to think that this specific card is somehow not compatible with the N40L. Even the Windows 7 install could not recognize the card as a audio device although it showed under device manager, and all enabled. When I tried to select playback device, there was just no audio device installed. Also checked that show hidden devices was selected.
So my conclusion is that it is either a hardware problem(faulty card), or hardware incompatibility.

Could the card with the active cooling be pulling too much power from the power supply causing issues?

thinking of getting 1 of these servers to serve as a media center pc/nas .... where can I get 1 for a good price??
also, would I be able to connect multiple tvs to this box and each be able to show different movies?? if not, is there something else that can do this??

I use one as a NAS device with 10TB loaded.
I tried one as a media server but choked with more than 1 1080p stream. Using an old Core2Duo for that now.

For different shows across TVs I use both Mezzmo DLNA Server and Plex Server.

So I guess the Forsa GT 210 really is not compatible with the N40L. Hopefully this tread will save someone a lot of trouble.
I picked up a GT 520 yesterday, swapped it out with the 210, installed a fresh copy of openelec 1.0.2 and after changing the Audio output to custom plughw:0,7, everything is working just fine.

I don't have menu sounds, but that is the way I prefer it anyway. All digital sound formats is picked up by my HT receiver and played correctly.

great success!

I managed to get menu sounds working, but it's not worth the effort with my AV receiver, because it shuts down the decoder when there's no audio signal, and takes a second to wake up/sync itself, so by the time it's ready to play the sound the sound itself is finished.

The same with my amp. It takes a second to recognize the audio format, and switch to the appropriate decoder.

This was a huge learning curve. The first time I really had to work with Linux.

I also figured out that the 1.95.5 build on the opelec website is broken. It only downloads a file half the size it should be. The Kernel and System files is not present.

I managed to get a copy from another site, and do a manual upgrade to 1.95.5.

Plex seems to be really power hungry :(

running it on a i3 540 ITX NAS but damn, thing chows it.

can't even think if it were to run from an MS.

I tried it on my N40L. While streaming to an xbox it ground to a halt. Upon checking the box it had a cpu usage of 34 concurrent processes with Plex. Not sure if it was due to the audio file scanning. Still want to try again with just video

when I ran mine 1st time, I also noted that it had something like 10+ tasks running "Plex Media Script" or something like that.

Peeps, I installed WHS 2011 on my box - but it doesnt seem to pick up the LAN .. any direct link to the N36L NW drivers ?
Hoping this 100412a-101846c-HP.zip is the right one :D

That seems wrong, I've played a 1080P rip on the device, while streaming SD H.264 to a PS3 and iPad no problem.
