HP ProLiant MicroServer

TV has S-Video input + 2 x components.
Current setup is an old PC acting as HTPC - S-Video + 3.5mm to RCA (Component) for sound.
DVD is plugged into the 2nd component input.

Can anyone confirm if XBMCUbuntu (Old XBMC live) supports hardware accelerated ATI video without having to install anything else apart from XBMCUbuntu itself?
Can't talk for XBMCUbuntu but I do know that normal ubuntu with xbmc installed on it will not do hardware acceleration without some fiddling in the terminal

I just built a micro server for a friend with a radeon 5450, driver support is terrible but I finally got hardware acceleration to work, really high bitrate movies would stutter but now all is good. Question for the Nvidia card users, Did hardware acceleration work straight out the box with xbmc? The reason I went ATI was that it was passively cooled and see many Nvidia cards have fans, what is the fan noise like under load? And what card do you use? i see some don't fit. Thanks

Yes, nvidia works out the box 99% of the time.

I have a Point of View GT520, if you don't see the fan with your own eyes no one would ever know the fan was in there, also not a single stutter ever, what would you classify as really high bit rate?

paid 399 ex vat at esquire about 5 months ago
Not on their pricelist at the moment, i think they may have replaced it with the 600 series, although the pricelist isn't always accurate of availability

all videos were fine except my copy of avatar, which is 35GB, but before the hardware acceleration was enabled most HD movies had a high CPU usage, now its dropped to 20% or less usage

think it was renamed to the 610 or something not sure

Point of View GeForce GT610 1GB

Point Of View GT520 1GB

The GT610 is the "new" GT520, it looks almost exactly the same so I would say if the GT520 fits so would the GT610, GT210 = R340.86 and GT610 = R409.26, that's not even a R70 difference, just remember with the Point of View cards you have to buy the Low Profile bracket separately.

Been away from home quite often so only get to use HP-MS (running OpenElec) now & then.
Problem i've noticed is sometimes i cant see HP from my PC or laptop on the network.
I can ping it fine, from HP i can access shares on PC but not from PC to HP.
Also HP can access internet while connected to network.
Simply wired network connected to a dlink 8 port switch.

To fix problem i have to switch off HP unplug network & restart PC, then connect network & start HP.
Don't know whats changed, or maybe its just feels neglected while im away.
