[Taken from Wikia - http://n40l.wikia.com/wiki/Graphics_Cards]
N40L also accepts discrete low profile graphics cards (only those with a low profile bracket). If it is to be used for simple video playing applications (e.g. XBMC) with GPU acceleration, any G210 or HD5450 or better card will suffice. However, if N40L is only used as a HTPC, the onboard N40L Turion CPU and graphics will easily handle 1080p BluRay videos without the need for a discrete GPU. 3D video requires a HDMI 1.4a capable card (e.g. HD6450 or GT520). The N40L does not have built-in audio out; to use it as an HTPC, HDMI-out or a sound card is needed for audio and video output.
Add: the N40L can be used as gaming machine, if you add a radeon 6670, which is the most powerful graphics card suitable for N40L.
NB: Radeon hardware GPU acceleration in Linux is poorly supported, but the cards (particularly HD6xxx series) are regarded to have marginally better video image quality than the nVidia equivalent.
My friend uses a 7.1 USB soundcard, just plug it in, might need a few minutes to find the right settings and away you go.Hmmm, found a bit of info why searching for video cards. I did not know that the N40L doesn't have audio out out other than through HDMI. So even if I manage to find a video card with S-Video, I wouldn't be able to get sound to the old TV unless I start looking at USB sound card options... and that just seems like so much hassle at the moment.
It's a pity, because I get get the MicroServer through our company account, but it seems like I'll just put the project off for now until I get a new TV.
Been away from home quite often so only get to use HP-MS (running OpenElec) now & then.
Problem i've noticed is sometimes i cant see HP from my PC or laptop on the network.
I can ping it fine, from HP i can access shares on PC but not from PC to HP.
Also HP can access internet while connected to network.
Simply wired network connected to a dlink 8 port switch.
To fix problem i have to switch off HP unplug network & restart PC, then connect network & start HP.
Don't know whats changed, or maybe its just feels neglected while im away.
@zamicro will try that when im home tomorrow night, thanks.

No he uses HDMI, soundcard is used because his amp doesn't handle the audio properlyThanks, I might just try it as a work-around until I get a new TV.
Does your friend also use S-Video for the video signal?
