@Soul Assassin I can confirm it works PERFECTLY!!!

This has jumped right up my list of "Must-Have Software". Once I have finished moving files to the separate HDD's (decided to have movies on one and series on the other) I am going to run the software to add all them into there own folders again.

Just add the folders to the individual sections, Movies, TV Shows etc. It will start by itself, you can also tell Plex to scan for new files every X amount of minutes or hours.

Just a note, if you have a lot of stuff it takes a long time, I would leave it over night, then in the morning you can check that everything got scanned. Also Plex runs at boot so no need to set that.

Cool thanks. Yeah I thought it might take long so I am going to finish moving the files and creating directories ect and then before I go to sleep tonight, start it and let it run the night and during the day tomorrow when I am at work and hopefully by the time I get home tomorrow it will all be done.
 
When you are done down load Ember Media Manager and let it doall the covers and folders scraping for you. All the files are stored in your folders so if you change setups again you don't loose them all.
I know that XBMC defaults to looking for the info first so it speeds things up on that side to
 
I have actually decided to delete all the other files except for the movie files (obviously) and let Plex get all the art work and media info - don't want any complications. I know it will take longer but rather get it done right the first time. Does Plex also get the movie info when it does the scrapping? I mean the write up of the movie, actors, directors ect?

Thanks for the tip. Just out of interest, if I use the Ember Media Manager, will Plex still do the scraping as well as Ember, or does the one override the other - I don't want duplicates. Or do I use Ember Media Manager before I add the folders to Plex? Sorry just a little confused.
 
As far as I know Ember doesn't even officially exist anymore. All Ember does is get posters and background art like you used to have for the WDTV, useful for XBMC setups

Plex gets everything, posters, backdrops, descriptions, IMDb star rating, theme music for TV Shows every aspect you can think of gets covered.

Another little curveball, have you decided on a skin for Plex?

I'm definitely then just going to use Plex to get all the info then, it is exactly what I want. Does it automatically get all that info you listed there or do I have to specify somehwere what I want (I want all of that so hoping it is on by default).

Hadn't even thought of the Skin yet to be honest, wanted to get everything sorted first but as I am writing this post, my mind is wandering off thinking what I want. Why you ask, you got a suggestion or know something I shoudl know :D
 
It does get everything by default, the only thing it doesn't get by default are subtitles, but we both know we don't need those as a default.

I use Filebot to do this. Renaming and moving files at the same time.

Cool thanks will look at those now and decide. Yeah I am not a huge fan of subtitles, I know you do need them now and then but I am not the biggest fan of reading while I am watching :wtf:
 
You can also use Plex Skin Manager

Also one thing you might want to get that Plex doesn't is ClearArt, it's not really needed but it's nice to have.

While I was busy deleting all the .xml and image files ect, I was also deleting the .backdrop files and in the process I accidentally deleted all my box set movies as well - I obviously wasn't paying attention and selected those files as well!!! But what is very weird is when I use a programme like Recuva, it doesn't find them at all. It finds all the series I deleted as I moved them to the other HDD but none of my Box Set movies... This is very upsetting :cry:
 
My HPMS arrived today. I got the Cybernatic Combo2, which included server, DVD-RW, 4GB RAM, 2TB HDD & GT210.
Hauppauge remote, UPS, and Xtreamer Wireless Keyboard will arrive early next week.

I am at the stage of being undecided on which frontend to use from the get go. I know it has been discussed to death!
I am thinking of trying out Windows 7/Plex first, and then maybe giving OpenElec/XMBC a try after that.
The only downside is all the setup time and config that would be wasted.

Try other programs before you panic, Lifehacker recommends this as a more powerful alternative to Recuva.

Thanks going to try this now. Letting Recuva run a deep scan but it says has over 5 hours left so might cancel it, try your recommendation and if not successful, then will run the deep scan through the night. Its just so weird that it picks up all the series I deleted but nothing else.

Oh well, all I can do is hope.

So I have given up on the box sets I lost, just want to get the HP up and running now.

I have gone into the Plex Media Manager and added the specific folders for Movies and Series ect - is that all I do now? Does it start scraping by itself now? Sorry just a little confused on how it is meant to work? Is there anything else I need to do or literally just click the "Add Section" button?
 
OK cool thanks. Yeah that URL you posted is the Plex Media Manager URL you get correct? So I should just leave it for the day and check when I get back to work then and hopefully all went smoothly. Does that get the movie info and everything?

I added two separate drives (movies and series), will Plex do everything one after each other or was I meant to add one folder, let it complete and then add the seconds and so on? Sorry just don't want to get home later and then it hasn't completed.
 
Basically you create sections for movies and tv series, and add the relevant folders to each. Then it will know what's where, and get artwork etc.
