HP ProLiant MicroServer

See I already messed up. I had just added all my different movie folders under the Movie Section. How do I start over basically becuase I have folders for movies, new movies ect and don't want them to to be mixed up.

Just add a section for each. Add a movies section for each movies folder etc. I've done the same for "my" movies vs the "kids movies". The plex server is pretty good at separating them in the client though. Movies recently added have their own place on the menu for example. You can access via year, actor, director, etc. as well as pure folder

OK so even tho I had added all my movie folders under the "Movies" Section (Movies, New Movies ect), can I just go into the Media Manger part and remove the sources and then add new folders for New Movies and add the source there?

I started doing that but then all the movies had yellow exclamation marks next to them, will this get sorted when I add the sources again under the correct section or will I have duplicate? I really don't mind removing all the movie files and starting over - if that is possible?

I'm running Debian Squeeze on mine - but i'm not getting any decent speeds from my ESATA port - anyone have any fixes for me? It seems slower than USB.

Thanks,
J

Never mind, I figured out how to start over. All I did was select folder I wanted to remove under "Library Sections" and then in the bottom left corner, clicked on the "gear" icon and then selected "Remove Section". I have removed all of them now so that I can start over and do it correctly.

So after setting up the media folders correctly in the Plex Media Manager and plugging in the remote extra I decided to test it out. I load up Plex and the menus load ect. I scroll to a movie and select it. It shows it's loading and then all of a sudden I get the windows error that the programme has stopped responding and needs to shut down. I restarted the HP but the same happens. Even reinstalled Plex Media player and still the same happens. Please can someone help me out here. Not sure what to do???

You running the latest drivers? Maybe check out the official plex forum, they are quite organised.

Also, have you enabled hardware acceleration in plex?

All drivers are up to date as far as I know as it was a fresh install and downloaded all drivers from the respective websites. Where would I enable hardware acceleration?

What's weird is when I open pled on my iPad, I can browse through all the content but when I play something, it is extremely bad quality, looks blocky and choppy at best.

Could it be that plex is still cataloging all my content? When I look in the media manager, that spinning wheel is still turning next to some of my folders. Could this cause plex to crash on my pc when trying to play media and be choppy playback on my iPad?

How long should it normally take to catalogue all my media? I have about 3tb of data and no Internet connection at the moment (used up my 10gig 8ta data)? That's another thing, when I get my data renewed this month, will Plex automatically try and get the art work and movie data again? Or do I have to manually tell it to fetch the info for all media it missed?

And something else I noticed now, whenever I restart my PC, I get a notification from Plex Server saying: " Restart Required. Detected a critical update, please restart Plex Media Server to activate." . So I restart the server and when I open it again, I get the exact same message. Could it be because I am not currently connected to the Internet? Or is there something else wrong? Please can someone help, this is becoming a nightmare - don't get me wrong, I love troubleshooting hardware but I also really want to connect my HP to my tv and give it a run...

I have no idea if the media still scraping would cause the server to crash, but it really does take a while to scan everything, 3TB would take a while, but like the good DrJohnZoidberg said the Plex forums are good at figuring out crashes if you post them the server log.

I did TV Shows and Movies separately it took almost a day for each, if you still have the patience, after you ask the Plex Team about the server crash, you could try and do each section separately, Movies then TV.

The quality you must set in the iPad app, depending on your wifi speed you should set this accordingly. I have a wireless N connection and set mine to the 20MBps maximum.

To set the quality, open up the iPad app, select settings and scroll to Video Quality. Set Local and Remote Wi-Fi to 20MBps. If you find that the video then is too jerky adjust this setting downwards until you find a good setting.

If you have those spinning circles in the Media Manager and you are not connected to the internet it's never going to finish. It needs to download all the cover art, fan art, etc and it cannot do that without an internet connection.

When you connect to the internet you will have to refresh your libraries manually by opening the Media Server web app and click the refresh button in the bottom right corner. It will only download artwork that is missing.

Yes. It won't be able to update unless you are connected to the internet so it can download it.

Just out of interest, could it maybe have something to do with no audio that is causing the crashing? I have the HP connected to my pc monitor until I have everything sorted out and then will move to my tv. It is connected via hdmi to my screen ( the are no speakers on the screen or connected) and when I look in the log it crashes due to some audio problem. Could that be the problem? I don't want to set it up on my tv until everything is sorted but I suppose I have to and see if that causes the problem.

Maybe post that part of the log, someone might see the problem or know what the problem is.

So it turns out that was the problem, having no audio. I connected to my tv now and it works and can play movies ect without any crashes.

Now I have new problems. Some movies playback really choppy - all the movies are stored locally on a HDD in the HP. Some play ok but others are terrible. Also when I watch some of my 3D movies, there is no audio playback at all, not sure if there is a setting somewhere but the audio play backs fine on normal movies. I don't have any sound system, the audio playbacks through hdmi through my tv speakers. I hope someone can help me here, really having trouble.

I found something that sounds like the issue you're having see here:

Detected a critical update restart required crash

Read through this post now, it is a little different to my problem, it only crashed when I started playing a movie file but it turns out it was because there was no audio playback device. I get the popup now and then in my start menu popup that says a critical update has been detected and needs to restart the server to activate but after restarting it popsup again. I tried checking for an update but it tells me there is none. So very confused here.

I will say that there's nothing in our software that says anything along the lines of "Detected a Critical Update, Please Restart the Plex Media Server to Activate".

This smells like a virus or trojan

Also in Plex, go to Preferences - Videos - Player, then enable "Allow hardware acceleration (DXVA2)

and Preferences - System - Audio, then disable Dolby Digital (AC3) Capable Receiver and DTS Capable Receiver.

Yeah I read that part and it has made me a little worried.

Your tips for the audio worked perfectly, sound now plays on the 3D movies thank you. Under the video settings I enabled "Allow hardware acceleration (DXVA 2), should I also enable the hardware acceleration (CrystalHD)? Going to have a look to see if the videos are still playing choppy, but the one i tested seem to be ok now. Any other tips for me to configure it properly or a link to guide? I looked on the plex forums and found a few tips but you seem to know what you talking about :D

And also in the preferences -> system -> audio under the audio output device, I am not sure which one to pick? There are a few choices: WASAPI LG TV-1 NVIDIA High Definition Audio, DirectSound LG TV-1 NVIDIA High Definition Audio, DirectSound Primary Sound Driver - which is the correct one to use?
