HP Slate 7 tablet launched

SA Price R4000.....

I wish we could get access to branded cheap Android devices (Like the Kindle Fire HD, Nexus 7, HP....) without the bloody markups, and yes I know you can self import but that is not retail off the shelve.

Think about it, if this puppy sold in SA for R1600 it would fly off the shelves.

I agree. If you Import yourself you have to worry about it being swiped at the post office as well as forfeiting your guarantee. Get it here for 1600 and I'll buy on ASAP.
3000 to 4000- moving along.

Problem is ... we are too small a market for the big boys to care about ... therefor the middlemen taking a large cut for taking the risk. And then Android tablets must still convince the limited market in SA that it is a realistic alternative to the iPad.

Another chicken vs egg then. Cause they waiting for em to sell before giving us cheap ones, but cheap ones would help them to create a market....

Go figure.

The chicken vs egg problem can be overcome if a company like HP decides to take the SA market seriously and invest in getting this series of tablets here themselves. They can. They have a substantial presence in SA already.

Huge companies are increasingly investing in emerging markets because they're discovering that there is less competition and therefore a lot of money to be made. We just need one company to throw some muscle behind their brand and they will take it.
