So I just got back from the UK, and managed to get myself an HP Touchpad 16GB for little over 2k on Amazon. Yes, I know it was a rip off since the guy picked it up for half that when HP decided to scrap the OS, but still way cheaper than I would have ever got it in SA. Very nifty device, solid, good build, and the HPwebOS on it is really not that terrible. I used the device for my best man speech I had to do (went over for a wedding) and had no issues whatsoever. But yeah, being an absolute Android nut I will HAVE to Honeycomb the thing! Will maybe use it for a couple of weeks then see whats happening over at XDA.

So, anybody here manage to snap up one of these as well somehow? If so, what's your plans with it?

Good luck! Keep in mind, it is a discontinued product, but not a bad product. Well worth it for what I paid. Try Amazon.co.uk. I managed to arrange with the seller to just pick it up, which I did, but I was in Kent at the time. South Africa is a little far...sigh! Hope you get lucky!

I got mine (32 GB) for about $120 or R800. It was a good investment. It was cheaper than the kindle I got earlier in the year for R900. It was my best electronics buy yet. My wife has an iPad 2 and I have found myself using the HP TouchPad daily. The apps are fewer than the noise in the Apple App store but they are there. More are on the way and we will wait to see if WebOS will be sold and the port of Android onto the Touchpad.

And you were about to tell us how to get one.......??

You wont be able to get it at that price no more. I qualified for a student discount so got it at $120. Got it the day the firesale started. There will be another batch coming out but pricing is still not clear. I am currently studying in the US so not getting it shipped to SA.
