Guys,

I have this notebook i slapped together out of parts from 2 different notebooks.

I have everything working now except the wifi/bluetooth adapter.

I basically used the HP620 case board processor with dvd hdd ram and screen from a lenovo g560.

Now the HP620 was mossing its adapter. It is asking for a Ralink device. When I fir the broadcom one the bios will not let the unit boot.

It pops the message that wireless device in incompatible. Instructs to remove it and restart.

Is there any way to force this adapter to work?

Also... is there any way to fit the Core i3 processor to the hp620?

It is running a celeron chip now... but both processor mating surfaces are the same.

I have not tried swapping them as I do not have any thermal paste at home.

Any advice ladies and gents?

I managed to get my hands on a Realtek WLAN module, works now. Just had to download the drivers and presto I am connected to wifi.

Now all I need is more ram. I only managed to salvage 1 x 1gb hynix chip. This machine used to have 4gb before the rebuild, unfortunately those chips were donated to a friend in need.

Still scratching through boxes here at the office to try my luck...

Thanks for the adv @ponder,

I did go and look online, but I cannot find a bios for this machine with the whitelist removed.

No you can't. The HP 620 uses a 478 pin micro socket and there is no i3 that uses that socket.

Compatible processors are the following.

ntel Core 2 Duo Processor P7370 (2.0 GHz, 3 MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB)* †
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6670 (2.2 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* †
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6570 (2.1 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* †
Intel Pentium Processor T4500 (2.3 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
Intel Pentium Processor T4400 (2.2 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
Intel Pentium Processor T4300 (2.1 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
Intel Pentium Processor T4200 (2.0 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
Intel Celeron Processor 900 (2.20 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
Intel Celeron Processor T3300 (2.00 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
Intel Celeron Processor T3000 (1.80 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* ††
