Hey All

It seems that all the places that used to offer HPI checks online and upped and vanished. Is there a reason for this and what is the best way to get an HPI check done if you are buying privately?

AA - No details on HPI anymore
Autotrader(vehiclecheck.co.za) - Looks live but payment gateway broken
Transunion - Services only offered to dealers

I get the feeling that the system is no longer accessible to the general public? I would have been happy to pay R100-150 to run a check but it seems that is not possible anymore. What is the best way to do due diligence on these kinds of sales. Sure AA vehicle checks and roadworthy, but to check accident history / finance status ?

What the hell does car value have to do with HPI ?

The CarValue site gives other info as well. I'm not sure if it includes HPI, there's a faq on their that you can read to see if it includes HPI or not.

Info included in the car check report from carValue/transunion report

Apart from notifying you if the car is stolen or not, the report highlights any discrepancies from the manufacturing specifications and details any existing finance arrangements.

Each Car Check Report provides the following information:
Car information verification detail

TransUnion matches the VIN and Engine number that you supply to the Auto Information Solutions database and provide results based on the match. You will receive one of the following confirmation results: Match, No Match or Partial Match. A No Match could mean that TransUnion Auto Information Solutions does not have a record of the car on the database or incomplete information has been provided.
Finance information

Displays any financial obligations listed under the car, which includes the financing house details, finance branch account/agreement number and contact number.
Stolen interest information

Confirms whether the car you are enquiring about is stolen or sought by the South African Police Services.
Accident repair quote data

Indicates whether the car has had damage assessment as part of an insurance claim.
Microdot

Is a security application that is a marking system that applies to thousands of dots. These are invisible to the naked eye, are virtually impossible to remove and act as an enhanced car theft deterrent.
Registration number history

Provides you with a list of the last three registration numbers received by TransUnion based on previous enquiries made on the car.
Enquiry history

Lists the last three enquires made in respect of the car by listing the source and transaction (enquiry) date.
Mileage history

Lists the last three recorded kilometre readings (odometer) to illustrate the mileage trend.
