I bought a car before HPI was a thing, and some of the older "imported" data isn't very detailed. There was a report on there for 70k damage but no date, no details of who quoted on it or anything like that. BUT because it was there and I wanted to sell it the finance place *required* me to provide invoices etc of what was fixed and obviously I didn't have them or any clue what they were to do with. I don't know how the dealers etc manage to sell them etc but for a private sale it was a no go unless I could provide those invoices.
We never required invoices. If we traded your car in and it was flagged on HPI, it was simply bought at a price reflecting that we knew it was damaged.
