Recently Hewlett-Packard (HP) unveiled ''The Machine'', a new computer technology capable of calculating 640 Tera-Bytes (TBs) of Data in a billionth part of second. HP claims about the new Photonic Device that it will give 6 times more power in computers and by using 80 times less resources. The new device will run on the HP's own Operating System named as The Machine OS which will be an open source operating system optimized for huge data to be transferred.

Just wow!

what the heck do they mean by calculating? what calculations are we talking about here? does it just create the data out of thin air? sensationalist article is sensationalist...

Watched the keynote by HP and while impressive, the only real change is using optical signalling between processors as well as some pretty fancy memory allocation techniques. Now its time to figure out what this thing is actually suited to do best...

You realise calculations per second has been the default value for ages right?
