How do you know when people lie in an interview about their current job?

Prior to the interview, the candidate should sign a clearance form that allows the future employer to verify the information as contained in the candidate's CV.

This should include details of their current/previous job.

The future employer can then either do a follow up call to verify the information or they can request a "Kroll" validation from an external specilaist company.

Oh. I just saw people applying for work today and I was WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The can hardly operate a phone but they claim to be skilled in everything IT.

Well i have seen people say they are skilled in I.T. and its just them thinking a double click is skilled.

And, yes, an aptitude or skills test can also be applied - as long as you treat ALL applicants exactly the same.

That does not matter. I would suggest all people do it to all applicants. Scary what can hit you in the face.

The interview should be such that there are tests of the persons knowledge..
The interview at my company was kind of a discussion of technology and some questions..
Had I lied on my c.v., i would have been slaughtered in the interview.

I has been accused of being to honest. I rather tell you I do not know but you can teach me than say i'm experienced in somethings and get fired for lying

A general "work asessment" day could be arranged.

I often describe myself as being brutally honest.....

I agree, if a company grants you a interview... they saw some quality's in your CV that they are interrested in.

Hence when they invite you and have the actual interview, they will ask away to test your Skills and Knowledge (doesn't matter if its IT or any other job application).

The Manager and/or HR will then be able decide if he/she is happy with the applicant.

Most company's don't blindly take people on, even if the CV is "Suped-Up". You can lie on the CV but you can't lie on Knowledge / Skills. *The Interviewer will see right through you once you start mumbling or giving vague answers*
