The Human Rights Commission on Monday warned it would take action against Facebook users who used hate speech on the site.
Eyewitness News received several emails complaining about offensive posts on ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema's fan page.
Some Facebook users have posted comments threatening to kill President Jacob Zuma and rape and murder white people.
Others use offensive language when referring to black people.
The organisation's Vincent Moaga said they were struggling to trace some of these Facebook users.
Moaga said they would take action against those using hate speech if they received an official complaint.
"While we believe that people have a democratic right to freedom of expression and speech, however, that right must be used in a responsible manner," said Moaga.
