MTN HSDPA Handsets?

Hi there,
has anyone got any idea if the Nokia 6680 will support HSPDA or is it just PC Data cards?

Hi Guys

Unfortunately the 6680 does not work on HSDPA. No HSDPA handsets yet in SA, will keep you informed as to when and what models. You are correct currently only The SW 850 Aircard (MTN).

I see mention in other posts of the delivery of MTN cards.

Anyone know where and when can one buy a MTN HSDPA card for a laptop?

I'm in Johannesburg.

Samsung is the only handset maker that has HSDPA phones. This phone will be available from next month in SA.HSDPA phones battery life is MUCH BETTER than 3G handsets.

Hi Dax

The cards will be available in The Morningside Walk-in service centre.
As far as I know they will be available on Friday 20/04/2006 This is not confimed though. Best is get to the service centre asap and put your name on a waiting list. Thats your best bet.

Hey Pitbull

Thanks! I'll do that. Do you know the approximate price of the card?

Of course, I'm willing to figure all this out for myself for the promise of approximately 1.4mb/s download speeds... but MTN's website is woefully inadequate on this point. :)

I'm happy to answer ANY data related queries.

Hi MTN Data Dude

Perhaps you can help. First off all, let me say how much I like MTN GPRS. Sure, it's not the fastest option today, but it lets me connect for a reasonable cost (especially via data bundles), at a reasonable speed. As a friend of mine says, GPRS is like using a very clean, solid 56k modem connection. But without the hassle of a Telkom line. :)

That said, while most of the time I connect just fine (and I've been using MTN GPRS for about a year), sometimes it just stops working in the middle of a session, or when I connect. It seems to something related to the DNS servers, I think.

For example, I was connected this morning just fine. Now this after, around 2pm, I struggled to connect. What happens is it claims to connect, but I receive about 175 bytes of data, and that's it.

When I try to do an nslookup, I get this:

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings>nslookup cnn.com
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 209.212.96.1: Timed out
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 209.212.97.1: Timed out
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 209.212.96.1

DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to UnKnown timed-out

After calling customer service, I'm repeatedly told this is related to 'congestion', but I can't seem to get anything more concrete out of them.

Eventually, when I could connect, this is what I get (and what I expect):

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings>nslookup cnn.com
Server: dns1.mtnns.net
Address: 209.212.96.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: cnn.com
Addresses: 64.236.24.20, 64.236.24.28, 64.236.29.120, 64.236.16.20
          64.236.16.52, 64.236.16.84, 64.236.16.116, 64.236.24.12

Any idea what really is going on here? I'd suspect that it was a configuration problem on my end, except for the fact that 90% of the time I connect just fine, and everything is great. Why then does it sometimes break in the middle of a session?

Any comments or answers would be great! :)

Thanks.

Cheaper Data !!

I'm sure GPRS capability has paid itself ten fold an mtn can actually do it.

Price war time guys ... I have two Vodacom contracts, but switched to mtn prepaid for data.

We really need an afordable alternative to helkom dialup.
