All right guys, for the love of all things sacred, I am really over this crappy battery life on my Desire! I have tried that battery calibration thing from XDA, I have tried SetCPU, I have tried JuiceDefender, I dont know what to do, I use the phone heavily, and I don't expect it to last for days, I just need it to make it through 1 full day at least...

Just to give a quick example, my phone is dead at the moment, I took it off charge at 4:35am which I do everyday when I get up. And it died around 45mins ago. Thats about 9 hours... :(

Any other tips on what to do would be awesome!

Get a girlfriend.

wow, what a idiotic response, retard, go play with your ifone.

Anyway, for all the grown ups here, has any of you used/tried the battery calibration method thats on XDA?

How much talk time do you get from the start to finish? This is for interests sake since i have a desire but dont use it heavily.

I get about a day and a half on mine.... not too many phone calls. I make sure that I turn WiFi & BT off when its not needed. I always switch the screen off as soon as I stop using the phone.

Does it charge via USB? When I use my phone that heavily, it's not much to carry a cable or even the charger around. Wherever I can grab some juice, I do.

What exactly are you doing anyway? Browsing/talking/music/movies/IM?

+1

I have not rooted, and i'm running 2.2. I've used battery graph, and system panel to monitor my usage. Both great apps. Battery graph does exactly that, so you can calculate your rate of charge and discharge over time - qualitatively see at what times and therefore what usage leads to the most battery usage. System panel (not the lite version - see getandroidstuff.com) allows you to 'monitor' your usage and then look at cpu usage per app over time. This might be an indicator of your big users. Also *#*#4636#*#* might also be useful for battery history. Then again apps that monitor your usage are probably eating battery too. I haven't figured it out yet :)

Regarding xda battery calibration - apparently only needed if you rooted. However I also find I don't get full charge, and have to do the same procedure. And quite often - might have something to do with charging on USB (500mA), cheap car charger (?mA), and wall charger (1000mA).

(stock) Froyo is not supposed to allow more than a certain number of apps to run in the background - thereby increasing your battery life. I find online widgets are big users because of two reasons - cpu usage, and mobile internet. Task killer apps shouldn't be neccessary and apparently they are also battery killers (especially automatic killers). The only time you need to kill an app is if its using your battery in the background, then go to the system menu and do it. According to google, your 'send-receive circuit' is the biggest culprit - probably after the screen. Which leads me to the point that the screen is massive and using normal brightness levels all the time is gonna do serious damage. Screen on-time should be the normalization factor for usage, otherwise don't bother comparing your battery life to others, its also obviously indicative of active usage vs. standby time. I have a battery saving sense UI scene with no widgets, black background (NOT LIVE), and i switch off my internet if i want to increase battery life. But i've resigned to crap battery life for the awesomeness of the phone. Also your sensors are killers, especially compass. Use the compass for 5 minutes, and then check your battery usage stats on the *# menu.

Having said all of that, I haven't figured it out yet :).

These are my experiences as a user. I have no knowledge of anything andorid from a technical perspective. Hopefully they release some sort of super battery for mobile devices soon. Thats the only real solution.

And YOU LIE if you get two days on your desire!

It would be nice to get a list of 'bad battery apps' on this thread. So far BBC News, and Engadget are behaving terribly. :)

)

I'm not rooted, running 2.2 on my desire, and i easily get 2 days of battery life... just messaging, mxit, games and max 30 minutes of calls a day... and at home its permanently on WiFi.

Try BatteryFu. It's locally developed and rather good. Turns off background syncing at different, user set intervals and also turns off your data at night. It's pretty smart and vastly better than Juicedefender

I posted about this in the Desire thread as well and found and posted the XDA battery callibration method as well. In an attempt to resolve the issue for me, I have rooted mine, loaded various ROM's and radios and have beeing playing around until I have now reached a point where I feel that I am achieving the best battery life possible. Using Leedroids 2.1 ROM version of Froyo Sense with Radio 32.47.00.32_5.10.05.23, which seems to give me the best battery life all around. Even with all of this though, I STILL have to make sure that I plug the phone in the car charger when driving etc, just to make sure that it lasts the whole day. Point is, its going to take a lot of trial and error on your part to get to a point where you may just be reasonably happy or alternatively just get used to carrying a charger or car charger with you and plugging it in when ever the opportunity arises........

Thanks for the responses, seems that if I use it like I do, screen on a lot, best way is to get a car charger and a extra normal one for work...

I don't want to carry around my charger, I have a tendency to forget things and leave stuff at places when I really can't afford to, and to leave the charger at work and notice it at home when the phone dies will not be great, lol ;) Thanks for the responses

What do you have enabled/running? There's a neat app called BatteryGraph. Provides a way to analyse when the battery is most used.

Its sort of fine with normal use. But between around 11am and 2pm I am usually on eBuddy with mobile data to chat with some clients and buddies. Thats when it goes from around 85% to 20-30%...

Other than that there is nothing running, I don't have GPS on, I don't let anything sync in the background, nothing funny.

I paid R30 for my car charger, and R30 for an extra long usb micro cord, think from sybaritic. Keep the long one at home, and the short one for my work pc.

Car charger from china mall on main reef. But i'm sure you can get the same at the robot. Don't bother with an expensive one.
