Goodness this is the saddest thing about my Android... all I'm asking for is 24 hours, I barely get 10 hours. And I'm such a mild user, anyone know of stronger batteries, tips etc. God bless!

I've got the 1600MAh battery from http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/ which works wonders by they also have a 3200 which etc... just think you have to replace the back cover or something but their batteries are a treat... have been using them for a while. Anyway just my 2 cents.

Switch off the GPS and wireless lan... that will save you a lot already. Secondly, I turn of my mobile data for most of the day when I dont need it and that can get me to about 3 days on a battery. But the main thing for sure is GPS.. if that is on, there is no way you'll get more than 10 hours.

My GPS and Exchange sync is permanently on, WiFi off, and I get a bit more than 24 hours. Oh, it's the Wildfire, not Desire. GPS does not seem to use battery unless you actually use an application that requires it.

Here is something I came across yesterday. I've yet to try this method (going to try it this weekend) but from the posts on the forum there is some success:

to also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour.

Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.

Some posters are saying they now get 50+ hours.

Also turn off synch background data. You will have to enable it again to use the market though.

Oi that charging/ turning off/on trick seems freakishly good mate, please update us on this once you've tried, thanks.

In my case, WiFi, Mobile Data, GPS, Auto Updates/ sync and background data are all off... Where I stay we mostly have edge when I do switch on mobile data, other than that I have two services running, Shake 'em all live wallpaper (3.5mb) and Touch Input (7.5mb). Apart from this I listen to music, take some photos, and do facebook/ Google every few hours. I do have a full body cover for the phone, I wonder if the lack of ventilation taxes the battery or something coz my boet has a BB torch and his rubber cover freezes/ slows the phone... Where am I going wrong?

thanks for the help lads!

I am losing my cool with this battery issue. I love the phone but its unusable. I woke up at 10, took it off charge and by 7 I had less than 20% battery left. Everything was off,WiFi,brightness, 3g etc. I can't imagine which app would be eating my battery but it really is pathetic.

I made about 3 short calls, sent a handfuls of messages and a mate played about 20 minutes of game. It's pathetic. I sat there wishing I had got a BB just so I can have a phone I wouldn't have to worry about. Really, I feel like sending it into HTC and asking them to make some sort of plan cause in my opinion...this phone is broken. Not to mention I can never hear the person on the phone. The in call volume is ludicrous.

The desire hd needs some work. So sad cause its a lovely phone.

Download Advanced Task killer from the market.

Applications don't have close buttons. Otherwise the apps can keep on running. Apps will still be open when you turn off and on the phone.

Apparently 2.3 Gingerbread will improve the management of open apps.

@pieterbotes has the mugen battery made a difference. How many hours do you get now

@zozzie, apparently 2.2 already has a good memory management system. I cant use this phone on weekends cause my desire hd just dies. I'm thinking of selling it and picking up a bold and one day when android and HTC sort themselves out, I will buy android again.

I am in exactly the same boat. Bought mine 2 weeks ago.
Never had a phone like this if you don't use the phone the battery drains this fast..
Charged my hd yesterday morning. Didn't use it the afternoon. This morning the battery was dead. This makes using it as an alam clock is a risk as the battery dies easily.

Phone makers will probably realize in the next year that putting a cellphone battery in a mini PC isn't that good an idea.

I think the rom that you have installed on your desire makes a difference wrt battery life. I'm running a Muimod 2.2 rom and I easily get a day if I use the phone lightly, but then I seldom do...

Go to Settings -> About -> Battery use. Check what's been chomping the battery and get rid of it if you can.

I've heard of tricks like this - it's called Bump Charging check out Android Police - they explain a lot about it. If you need it then go for it, otherwise I wouldn't do it.

Applications don't have close buttons because they don't need them. Android doesn't keep everything running in the background (like your PC), most things are put in a "Sleep" state when you navigate away from them and things are reset when you come back to it. Services (like music players and their ilk) are kept running because they, obviously, need to. I used a Task Killer once and noticed that my battery life and general performance was, in fact, worse. Check here - there are many other sources on this too if you don't want to take my word for it.

My battery is being killed by display and phone standby. I'm thinking hard reset and see from there. If that doesn't work I'm sending it back to HTC as an out of box failure. Not to mention I can hardly hear anyone when I talk to them.

Very weird, rom on my phone is Sense B5 I get about 24 hours on the battery with normal use. Try different roms. Maybe your chip is running at full speed all the time. Slow it down. Go to XDA developers on the net and learn how to use the phone.

I assume you've tried adjusting the speaker volume during the call?

Haha. I have adjusted the call volume but its not that. If I'm walking down the road I can't hear jack.

Ill look into seeing if I can slow the processor a bit. Not sure how its done though.

I had similar. Problem with my desire on the sense rom's best you root the phone.I get 3 days of battery life got Ginger villain rom. I think a clean rom will do the trick.
