HTC Desire HD battery drain

My batt was at 9% this morning (Sunday), going from Thursday at 4pm when I disconnected from work PC. So it survived through basically 2/3 days with Exchange, Gmail, FB and Twitter sync etc all on

Only if you use default settings, then again that is one of the things that eats batteries :)

If you dont need a always on 3G its perfect as it turns on 3G on a schedule to sync and then turns it off to save power.
 
My battery sucks

What can I use to backup my device and include all applications and their settings? Want to try a factory reset

my friend just got his HD a month ago was having the same problem, battery out in day with minimal usage. Friend stream was killing the bat so I switched off those features, went from 3G to EDGE and dimmed the screen. After that battery life is at a respectable 2 days with average usage. so if yours, after doing all of that is still sucking life faster than the government, i suggest getting a new unit. Absolutely bull to last a few hours only.
 
I reset mine to Factory - it seems to be better, at 46% after some heavy data usage downloading and reinstalling all my old apps.

A note though.
Used this for SMS backups, it worked, but resent all my MMS for some odd reason: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore

Used this for apps, https://market.android.com/details?i...gs.android.pop, it works, but you loose ALL your settings/saves - AND it doesn't link the apps to the Market. So I redid the factory reset and will install the apps manually as need be.
 
The apps that you run definately play a big part. I must have uninstalled some app or other, because I'm on day 3 of my Desire HD on the same charge. It will definately make it to tonight before the battery runs out

Usage:

  • Average of 1 call a day
  • Many WhatsApp messages
  • 2G during the day, Wifi at Night
  • Moderate browsing over 2G and Wifi
  • Dim Screen at night, Normal screen brightness during the day.
  • Background syncing of Mail and Gmail all the time
 
Yeh - I uninstalled the majority of my apps, I even had all connections off this weekend because we were in a no coverage area, and it still died in under a day, hence the reason to do a factory reset.... maybe it had something to do with the firmware upgrade, because it was terrible after that.

I've heard mixed reviews about Android 2.3 firmware upgrade. My batter life has improved from 1.5 days (maybe 2 days) to 3 days.

A suggestion for you:

Get a CPU monitor (Android Status is pretty good) and see what percentage your CPU is at: mine was 90% constantly then I turned USB Debugging ON. It dropped instantly to 10% constantly. As a result my battery life improved. This little workaround doesn't seem to have an effect on 2.3 on my phone but when I had Android 2.2 it made a massive difference.
 
When will the Android 2.3 upgrade be available in Sa for HTC Desire ??

I have a suspicion that Desire won't be getting Android 2.3 because its considered an "old" phone. I may be wrong tho.

I'm applying the same logic that HTC has used that only newer phones will be getting HTC Sense upgrades.

Not even the Desire HD will be getting the newer HTC Sense. :-(

Desire did get 2.3 update its just SA thats not getting it?

Anycase my desire was rooted and running 2.3 since Feb

Current battery status - 19%
2d 13h 20m 40s on battery
Charged battery up to 88% on last charge.

No 3G, some WIFI, normal usage (calls, a few games etc).
 
Blah -mines still pretty ****ty.

After the factory reset, sitting on 13% after 9h44m:
Display: 45%
Dialer: 11%
Voice Calls": 11%
Maps: 6%
Cell Standby: 6%
Phone Idle: 5%
Google Services: 3%
HTC Sense: 3%
Local: 3%
Andriod OS: 2%
Internet: 2%
 
Can someone explain why exactly LeeDroid et al would be using less battery life? are there less processes running, less protocols or what? Why would it be getting such remarkably higherr battery usage statistics?
sjm, would you mind giving a break down of whats used your battery so far like xrapidx did, when you say 'few games' we have a fair idea of how much battery life a game drains, so could you perhaps state how much up time that gaming used?

and/or other high usage apps, how long they've been up. Do you get many calls during the day? email much, twitter, whatsapp or somesuch or is your phone basically just on standby for most of the day?

Sense runs extra processes in the background and there is no way to turn them off. Things like News, Weather and friends run even if you disable the updates
 
Since adding 3G Watchdog to the mix I could see the extra stuff running in the back, and connecting/leaching internet even with updates disabled... Hmmm
