hey guys i got my phone yesterday and its epic no doubt! only problem is that its too expensive! i'm on mtn anytime 500 and i've already used R120 airtime in less than a day. is there any apps i can download to make this phone more cost effective? i've tried using a task killer but even when i don;t use the phone, i check my balance later on and more money has been used. also does anyone know how to use the internet pass through option? it seems to work but every time i surf the web with pass through it charges me airtime? i'm too far from the router to use wireless.

Disable Automatic Synching. menu -> setup -> next -> next -> skip -> next -> manually sync data -> next ...

or go to menu -> settings -> Accounts & Sync -> uncheck Auto-Synch and make sure you disable background data aswell.

you really cant be doing this ironman, downloading apps etc through 3G isnt ideal, all of that stuff I use WiFi or internet passthrough at work. you need to find a cost effective solution

Edit: oh to use internet passthrough, install the HTC install file found on your SD card, its for synching and such things, it also allows internet passthrough and the likes. enjoy

Back in December I bought the Cell C speed stick option for R1499 once off. I know you can also get it cheaper if you wave the USB and take the sim only. (Promotion still on) Back then I was on HTC Desire, just bought my HTC Desire HD on Thuesday for R6000.

I found it to be the best option for me as I use normal pre-paid air time on it to phone people, and don't have to worry about data use on the phone. I have 3G always on and no wi-fi access.

As for limiting data use stop all background sync as mentioned above and also read carefully when you install applications cause allot of them use internet access esp the free ones (only option in SA android market) to fund the app via advertizing and such.

Also an option would be to add a widget to turn 3G on/off and use it to turn on 3G only when you need it.
