So after reading the response from HTC im not very clear as to weather the DHD will
be getting Ice Cream Sandwich ... not really surprised looking at HTC record for looking
after their clients and upgrades etc ... slowly but surly starting to regret getting an HTC
even though this has been one of the best phone I've ever had but that mostly due
to android doing its thing so smoothly ...

So what I really want to know is are we getting Ice cream Sandwich for the DHD
without having to root???

I highly doubt it.

If we get an official port dont expect it soon, will most probably be last in line so dont expect it before April/May, but seeing that mine is rooted I will be running it soon, well as soon as the Galnet download servers are back online from http://galnetmiui.co.uk/landing/ics-builds/

That looks pretty cool... I was a bit lazy over the weekend, maybe next weekend :D

Well I dont know if its my phone or the ROM, but for some reason tether is not working, so I may have to go back to MIUI.us

Will check the forums to see if I am the only one.

Just FYI - just spoke to leaf. No ICS for DHD. General cancellation by HTC

Shall we start punting ROMs then :)

In my case been using MIUIv4 that uses 4.0.4 and base. If you want the ICS look you can always install Apex launcher.

Pro's
  • Does not have HTC Sense <-- my view
  • Build in Firewall with wifi and 3g settings per app
  • Do not Dial, best system for blocking spam and unwanted calls
  • Loads of community themes that can be applied as a whole or mixed to create a unique look
  • Best App security that prompts before allowing/or managed applications access to SMS, Phone or other services (Know what apps are doing to your phone)

Con's
  • Does not have HTC Sense <-- other people's view
  • No App draw works like iOS but launchers or folders can remedy that
  • I have found one or 2 applications that do not like the ROM might be more.
  • Some ICS Widgets do not display with the default launcher/works on Apex.

There might be loads more but this is just off the top of my head, oh, unlike other ICS ROMs, this one's camera actually work with panoramic shots and all. To see an old review of MIUIv4 click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUHVYf8XMHo For example the online music issue been sorted already.

Sporting 2.7.6 on my DHD with no complaints and I know 2.7.13 is out but seeing that I found no issues I'll skip it.

I have tried some ICS roms, do not know off hand all the ones I did. I always find myself returning to MIUI. In fact my brand new Xperia S does not even get used because I can not find a MIUI rom for it <-- that is how strong I feel about MIUI

I still want to hear from HTC or Vodacom/Vodafone instead of rumours created by a Telus announcement.

Uhm Leaf is the official in country provider for all HTC. hence the "I just spoke to Leaf" part..... It's not happening anymore full stop. HTC hasn't clarified why they just said cancelled.

Sigh.

So you spoke to the cleaner, low level salesman or your cousin in Leaf who probably just read the Telus pdf schedule doc saying it is cancelled.

Spoke to Damien, speak to him yourself if you don't believe.

http://www.leaf.co.za/pages/contact.aspx

Use the support number
You spoke to a Leaf support agent. :whistling:

Here is how I understand it. I don't care if you say otherwise so lets leave it at that.

HTC originally said the update period for the HTC Desire HD is Jul-Aug because they can't give an exact date due to technical issues that can arise.
A small Canadian telco pushes them for exact date and they say probably X date if no issues arise. The same telco then puts on their website a schedule for all the phones that is more exact than HTCs schedule.
Now instead of looking like jerks for not meeting the probable date that telco says HTC has said the update is cancelled making HTC look like the jerks.
News agencies pick up on it and the news goes viral and rehashed going from maybe to probably to definitively cancelled based on no extra sources.
The update might have been delayed due to performance issues, requires more work than expected or have a technical issues like ICS 720p video recording lagging that HTC might or might not be working on. Point is we don't know yet since HTC hasn't given any details as the upgrade period has always been Jul-Aug.

What I am saying is that HTC hasn't officialy made a statement that it has been cancelled.
Just because the internet, Telus and Damian of Leaf says it so doesn't mean it it true.

Well now I guess you showed me! Who needs official channels when one can simply speculate on pure conjecture.

I guess if I want to live like you I will be required to carry my tinfoil hat with me. Most excellent fashion statement.
