HTC HD2 - Probably the best smartphone ever

Just a pointer to my comment elsewhere.

Probably the best smartphone ever made: HTC HD2.

Superlarge 4.3" capacitive touch screen. 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. Unmatched build quality.

But why the best?
Because it can run just about anything:
* Windows Mobile 6.5 (with dozens of cooked ROMS available)
* Android
* Windows 95
* Windows 98
* Ubuntu
* WP7
* MeeGo

Nothing else comes close to that power and flexibility. You can make it what you want it to be, though I'm not for a femtosecond suggesting it's everyone's cup o' cha.

It might not have bling, but it sure has squirt.

A real classic. Still recommended for gizmo-phreaks.

It's a great cheap alternative to a Desire HD if you want an Android phone. I'm amazed HTC put such an awesome phone together and then stuck Windows Mobile 6.5 on it.

Oi, JtS -- what a bummer. Mine has been dropped many times and once even flung sliding about 5m onto a tar road, but the gods have been good: worst damage is a crack across a corner of the camera lens glass cover which doesn't affect snaps.

I guess you tried speaking to your insurer?

The HTC HD2, which was released seven years ago with Windows Mobile 6.5, has now booted yet another Android version. The CM14 build is not suitable for daily use, but acts as a proof-of-concept.
