I hve been phoning arround but no luck.
Thanks
Johnathan

Nashua Mobile is usually quite good with getting new releases...
Maybe give them a call. Even if they don't have stock in CT, they'll ship it from wherever they do

I got mine [Sandton] from Nashua Mobile on the 29th Jan. I ordered it on the 26th in the afternoon & fetched it at 09h00 on the 29th ... I'm sure the lead time would be more or less the same in CT.

Oh, yes ... MTN Anytime 200 ... R459-00 /m, no pay-in.

And how are you finding the HD2? I was considering this phone, because of the beautifully large screen, but decided against it after reading a few reviews of it. WinMo 6.5. So I'm gonna wait for the HTC Bravo....3.7 screen and Android 2.1.

Or the Xperia X10 - 4" screen, although it's only rumored to run 1.6 at the moment, with an update sometime in the second quarter. os not long after we get it.

I own a HTC HD2 and bought it on launch day because of the promise that when WM7 is finally released apparently later this year, it will be a free upgrade and it will make everything better. I have NOW however come to the conclusion that WM7 is never coming out and the WM6.5 OS on this phone is absolutely horribly. The ONLY nice thing about this phone is its camera which is very responsive and can take some nice photos. The rest of the phone, software wise, sucks donkey balls. It has fantastic hardware on it, but the OS on this phone and LACK of proper software is causing this phone to fail. I cannot wait for the NEW iPhone so that I can go back to something that's more user friendly.

P.S the touchscreen on this phone is HYPER sensitive and it doesn't seem to "lock" even when you tell it to. This causes MANY accidental phone calls.

Actually now that I think of it, stay away from this phone. It's rubbish.

How peculiar - you must be the only person on the planet having these problems - just read all the reviews and comments from thousands of users. My experience is the exact opposite of yours.
1) WM7 will be announced this week at MWC - with availability probably late 2010.
2) Why is WM6.5 "horribly"? What do you find "horribly" exactly? Can you be specific, or are you just repeating other people's just-so stories? With HTC Sense you almsot never even see WM. Besides, in function and performance it's way superior to anything else on smartphones - it multitasks, has wide hardware support, thousands of apps, can cut and paste, even supports flash plug-in for WM Explorer to play FLVs, it has the most capable email support on any phone bar none.
3) What software is LACKING that is "causing it to fail"? Are you serious? There isn't a phone on the market that has wider app support...
4) Touch screen is magnificent - that's my experience and the consensus of anyone who's ever used it or tested it. You can't be serious. EVERY reviewer, even the iPhone fans, say this is the finest phone they've tested. If you actually do own an HD2 then I suspect the problems lie elsewhere - they're not in the phone.
5) I have never had a "lock" problem. This seems to be an operator problem, frankly.

I've owned an HD2 since November last year, and it's truly the best phone I've ever had, by a long chalk. A big thumbs-up.

Well said! - The net generated winmo hate seems to permeate people to regurgitate it without much thought. I'm thinking of getting the HD2. I'm keen to see what wm7 will look like at the release tomorrow as well. IF all else fails there's always android ports in xda developers which should be in a few months.

On the topic, what are your best apps to run on the HD2 Arthur? The only slight downside for me is that android app development seems to be much more current. I'm hoping you can give some good tips.

Another thing: where did you see this promise of WM7 on the HD2? Who made it? Certainly not HTC. And it couldn't be Microsoft, because they never release WM for specific hardware but always to an OEM. There's been speculation and rumour, but speculation is not a promise. You sound rather misinformed, which makes me wonder whether you actually have an HD2 or whether you're just trolling here to stir...

CeRRaNo: Best apps? it all depends what you want, really. I have a 16GB microSD card, and here's what I have loaded after blowing in the 1.66 ROM:

* Garmin Mobile XT with maps of SA and USA
* Oxford Dictionary
* MS Reader and approx 350 books
* SPB Wireless Monitor - essential for monitoring 3g data usage
* SPB Pocket Plus 4.1 (mainly for battery indicator, encryption support, and File Manager extensions)
* SPB Backup
* SPB Imageer
* SPB Online (streaming TV and radio - I listened to the Super14 games on Saturday while at Herold's Bay, which can't receive FM signals)
* SPB Traveler - great for finding flights. Interestingly, 1Time appears on Intl reservation systems as Paradise Air.
* SPB Weather
* SPB Time
* Pocket e-Sword
* Pocket Stars (astronomy app)
* Shazam Musid ID
* Skype for WM
* PHM RedEdit - registry editor
* WMWiFiRouter - though a wifi router is included with the HD2, so no longer necessary.
* Beeline GPS
* Noni GPS Plot
* CorePlayer
* Microsoft Recite
* WIMP (phone locator)

Standards apps often used include RSS Reader, Outlook (multiple accounts), Opera browser. Lots of other apps included standard wth HD2 - Facebook and Youtube mavens will like the integration with Contacts and a decent Youtube viewer. There's even a Digital Compass though I can't imagine when I'll ever use it.

Of course I constantly use Pocket Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, and the PDF reader.

Thanks very much for that.

Pity about the sharks result on that super14 feed. :(

Is there already a rom update? What does it fix?

I'm torn between the nexus one and this phone at the moment. For business the HD2 wins hands down and for applications the Nexus seems to have it. I want both ! :D

Yeah okay dude, think what you want. I had an iPhone which I gave to my fiance after I bought the HD2. I've had the Nokia E90 since release, then the iPhone and now the HD2. WM6.5 sucks. Really.

And if you think WM6.5 is fantastic then you clearly have NOT had better. I however, have. Oh, and btw. WM7 has been "promised" for 3 years so far....wakey wakey. You should REALLY google a bit more on a subject before you through your 2 year-old "facts" on the table.

Ooo, touchy, eh. Your bluster and affected condescension don't hide the fact that you still haven't mentioned a single problem with WM. You make assertions and ask us to believe you without credentials or facts - that's a BIG ask. Before you make an absolute ass of yourself I suggest you cut the ad hominems, and share some real facts and personal experiences and not unsubsantiated (and perhaps recycled/copied?) feelings and assertions. It's all here, live on the internet, for everyone to read. Is the best you can say "WM6.5 sucks. Really." Just why should we believe you?

Care to substantiate your claim about the "horribly" (sic) in WM, and what about WM in your experience makes it "suck"? It was you who made the claim, after all. One or two examples?

Just asking.

I'd have to agree with Arthur - your complaints all seem to be rather vague...
I've been using WM6.5 (official ROM) on my TP2 for about 3 months now and haven't had a single issue with it.
If anything, there's been some nice improvements - like the added spacing btwn menu and explorer items making finger usage a lot easier.

The vibration feedback when typing on -screen also makes things much simpler.

What problems exactly have you had?
WM isn't for everyone - unlike Symbian or the iPhone, the OS isn't linear and there are many ways in which to achieve the same outcome (much like a PC)

@nuyourk - sorry for the late feedback ... but Arthur really seems to have it down pat! :D

OK ... Feedback in general

What I like:
Performance ... the interface is fast and reacts well to prompts / input, etc
Touch Screen ... it took me a while [less than an hour] to get used to, but now I find it absolutely fine. No complaints whatsoever.
Screen ... it's BIG ... I love it. I read a lot (MS Reader) and it fits a lot of text onto one screen. I've installed CorePlayer & watch movies on it (well, not much, I'm more of a bookwork) & it's fast & clear as crystal.
Syncing ... a big plus of WinMo is that I can sync my Outlook with no hassles or work-around ... it just works. Connect & Done.
TomTom GPS ... Easy to use & very responsive.
Digital Compass ... just because, OK?
xda-developer.org ... The best support group out!

What I don't like:
Screen picks up my fingerprints like crazy ... I clean it at least 4 times a day (I use a glasses-cleaner cloth) ... no big deal.
HTC Support ... WHY does the rest of the world get updates and we don't???? (means I have to update myself ... which invalidates the warrantee ... I haven't done it yet, but will in a month or 2)
Battery Life ... by default it's rather short ... you have to do a bit of tweaking to get it to triple (from 12 hr to 36 hr!) ... a little app called WMLongLife does the trick (seems that 3G connectivity is rather a battery drainer).
Screen brightness ... I just can't get it bright enough to read in direct sunlight (OK, OK ... I'm a bookworm!)

@Mr Anderson your only concrete comment is that the screen is HYPER sensitive. Yes, so? I LIKE that.
The screen locks fine ... what are you doing? Whistling at it? Just use the "Cancel/End Call" button in home screen ... there ... Locked!
... Frankly you sound like a iPhone fanboi.I'm not an iPhone fan, but I would never call it "rubbish" just because it doesn't suit me.

@Arthur
... What version of Pocket e-Sword? Are you happy with the text size? I've got 3.2.0 (as far as I know the latest & last & the text is too big at it's smallest setting)

I'm going to do one better and NOT give you examples, instead, I'm going to keep quiet and let the World's worst phone OS slowly eat away at you. Everytime an app crashes, or an SMS doesn't send but LOOKS like it sent (HTC website for reference on the issue when you get your head out of your ass), you'll remember that I warned you about it. So go ahead....enjoy what is called Windows Mobile...lol

Dear Toby

Thank you for your enquiry about HD2
What we do it ROM Upgrades from our website, however 6.5 windows mobile has only been out 2 months and windows mobile 7 hasn’t even been developed. This wont be out until next November at the earliest. But when it is available it will be a free download.
If these steps have not helped, please let me know by responding using the link provided and I will be happy to check again for you.

All it took was a bit of googling, and some perspective.

In my 5 years of using WM (and I started on WM5, am now on 6.5) I have never ONCE had an sms say it was sent when it wasn't.
If you prefer the iPhone, good for you. If you prefer Symbian that's cool too. You go ahead and get yourself a Nokia or iPhone. Don't bash other OS's just because you're too narrow-minded to try it.

I've found that the HTC site provides some of the smaller upgrades and fixes but if you want ROMs, it's best to check the Leaf website (since they're the HTC distributor in South Africa)
http://www.leaf.co.za/pages/support/product.aspx
And select the HD2 from the drop down.

AFAIK though, the HD2 is shipped with WM6.5 so there won't be many official ROM upgrades till WM7 is released.
I've just looked at the site and the ROM available is: RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE-AFK_1.48.421.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe

Of course there's stacks of cooked ROMs available on XDA but I have yet to use to use any of these since my official ROM keeps me happy.

Congrats on making a great choice with your handset - I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

I just managed to get it to accept my registration this morning & have kicked off the download ... I'll finish it tonight.

Once I've got it & I'll HSPL & then flash back to stock ... if it all works OK then I'll be set to play with cooked ROMs.

I think I'm sold on this one! Now my contract just needs to expire so that I can upgrade! Hopefully they will provide the Win7 ROM free! I have read some time ago that you won't be able to upgrade from WM6.5 to WM7 - that would be sad since I really want WM7!
