HTC Hero or IPhone 3GS?

Hero for better overall messaging, social networking integration and nifty widgets. (and apparently better virtual keyboard with haptic feedback). And customisation to fit your every whim and need.
Iphone for overall best media features and simplicity, and choice of (paid for) apps. But needs jailbreaking to customise.
I am straddled with the same dilemma.
However, for me, I'm probably getting the HTC Hero in Urban Brown (confirmed this is the only colour for SA with Leaf).
Will then wait for the Ipod Touch 3 to hit our shores in late October after the launch next week and get that as my media player. I expect the Ipod Touch 3 to have a nice 3.2 autofocus camera as well.

I won't lie, this is a hard call to make....
I think the only + with the iPhone is it's Appstore and it's 65 000 applications to choose from.

Android Market has a lot of decent free apps.
Why would Leaf only offer the brown - this is a huge disappointment, I really want the white one.
When I contacted Leaf on Friday they said that they will be getting stock "in the next week or two" - after which they will still need to send the stock to the various companies such as Autopage or Nashua.
I can't wait!!!!! Really hope it happens this week!

I hear you - but I've done some reading and the urban (dark) brown actually seems the better colour choice.
Even though the white is teflon coated, it appears to get smudges of dirt easily and requires regular cleaning ....

LOL I have had Windows Mobile Phones as well as the iPhone for a bit before it sadly got stolen.
iPhone is purely FUNFUNFUN to use, the capacitive touchscreen is really really cool and the way Apple have made use of it is brilliant. It is far better than resistive. The music player is nice to use, and even the photo's on the little 2mp camera look good on the screen. The apps you can get for it are also super amazing and cool and fun to use! The OS is also super fluid. It is the first phone I have had that I never got bored of.

This is the problem I have. Iphone or Hero. Doh.
The iphone takes the cake for pure "music and media" fun device. For sure.
Hero ... me'thinks I would enjoy the freedom and ability to customize a bit more ... plus multitasking on android seems to be really good. Less clicking on the "home button" (I have a Ipod Touch 2nd Gen and this starts to kill me) and more swiping screens for instant satisfaction.
Grrrr. Which one. Arrrrgh.

Go for the Hero. Iphone is sooo last season. I've read MAAANY reviews and most of them agree that the Hero is on par if not better than the Iphone. You can do so much more with the Hero in terms of customisation and you won't be following the masses with their Iphones. The Iphone is also more expensive on any package than the Hero (the normal 8GB 3G isn't but that phone really doesn't compare to the Hero at all.) If you are considering the Iphone you have to get the 3Gs - lots of websites offer comparisons. There's also a really good 3 part video on YouTube comparing every single feature of the Iphone vs Hero.
