I got my first HTC phone in 2006, and three more since then. I have only purchased HTC phones since then.

I had wanted to move over to one of the new WM7 phones (like the Mozart, HTC 7 Pro or HD7), but HTC / Leaf and the networks (MTN in my case) could not sort themselves out. Today I purchased another phone and it was not an HTC.

You had my loyalty for 5 years, and who knows how long it will be before I purchase another HTC phone. Get yourselves sorted out before you lose further clients. :(

All WM7 phones have still not passed network compatibility testing with MTN. The HTC Mozart was meant to be an exclusive for MTN but they don't know when it will pass testing. I did not want the HTC Trophy (exclusive to Vodacom). The HD7 and the HTC 7 Pro seem a long way off from seeing the light of day in SA nevermind getting network compatibility done.

Sounds more like a network issue though? HTC aren't responsible for MTN's problems...

Might well be. If they knew it was, why not release the Mozart to other networks as well rather than keep it exclusively for MTN?

It becomes your problem when your product cannot be used because an incompatibility exists. Same type of problem if Toyota released a car that did not run on our locally available fuels.

Just got my first HTC phone and I am as happy as a pig in s**t with my purchase. And yes I use MTN because I don't trust VC as far as I can throw then.

Exclusivity deals would be concluded long before network tests start. Blame MTN if you want, but don't be miserable just because you know deep down inside you should've gotten an HTC Android device instead. :p

They are good phones and yes, I did stay with MTN even though their customer support is worse than Vodacom. My wife has a Vodacom contract and they are much easier to deal with.

You're right - the deals would be concluded first. BUT, change strategy if there appears to be a problem.

I am not going to argue that point, the Android phones are pretty decent, but I needed a WM7 phone to run a specific piece of software.

I honestly don't know why people approach the cellular companies directly. Use a buffer company like Nashua Mobile who are outstanding.

Nah, I'm just yanking your chain. It's less fun with WinMo users forced into it than what it is with iFans, though. The issue with your initial statement is however that HTC would simply be as dependent on MTN as what they are on Vodacom - I doubt they'd be in the position to call any shots.

My last 2 upgrades were infuriating, because I was trying to get a just-launched phone in both instances. I was near the point of throttling people at MTN on both occasions, but it's just a case of farting against thunder...

Pass the baked beans please! :D

@phaktza

Do you not sit with the middle-man problem? "It's their fault, no, it's their fault."

I am also waiting for the Mozart and I am really getting impatient. I don't have the cash to go and buy a phone cash from Leaf or Europe, so I have to wait. I don't want the Trophy since it is inferior to the Mozart.

What I don't understand is that MTN got an exclusivity deal with the Mozart, but 8-ta and Virgin advertise the phone... and no, I am not willing to migrate to any of them, but I am considering to migrate to Vodacom just to get the Trophy because my phone really needs replacement now.

What phone did you get in the end, since you need a WP7 phone?

Nope, Nashua gets paid to do a job and they do it very well. If it's out of their hands they apologise and always keep me informed. Very good company to deal with and they're far more likely to do their best to keep you as a customer than those big cellular companies.

But if the phone was released and a serious flaw appeared regarding network compatibility or some such issue then everyone would be screaming about MTN/VC/etc not testing the devices properly? It's a phone, what's the mad rush? It won't change after a few weeks so you won't loose anything.

Not arguing or stirring, just don't see why people get so damn impatient when they know the phone isn't really out yet... oh well.

Phones die after a few years. That tends to hurry one along and get more impatient when you can't get what you want. Thats the rush :)

The SP's are lying. If you buy a WP7 HTC phone from anywhere else. (online shops, oversea, etc) it works 100%.

The damn network monkies can't get a programmer to add the MTN/Vodacom Logo on the splash screen, thus they say it "FAILS".
