Hi Guys.

I might buy a new second hand HTC magic for about 3k ... do you think its worth it?
Apparently it will be getting the Android 2.1 Update with HTC Sense ... anybody know if it is true?

Also, does anyone have any experience with it's GPS and the Google Maps with turn by turn directions, as I would like a phone with a decent GPS on it.
Is there any decent 3rd party GPS for Android?

Something like a Desire will be out of my budget I think.

Regards

Itai

Dunno what the cost price is on the magic, so I cant comment on that aspect. SenseUI has been 'coming soon' for more than a month now. Leaf.co.za last said they were testing it, so it will probably come out at some point, unless they can't get it to work or something equally embarassing. Please note Sense =/= Android 2.1. There have been rumours that the Hero will be getting 2.1 sometime this year, so technically the Magic should be able to run it as well, but it remains to be seen if it will be officially released.

Magic runs android 1.5, so it only has google maps, not google nav. Which is a bit of a moot point, since Google nav only offers proper turn by turn directions to people in the states. There are a couple of 3rd party GPS programs for android, but they all cost in the region of R1000.

Desire will likely be expensive, but the Legend (upgrade to the Hero) should be quite a bit cheaper. You'd have to wait two months at least before we see either of them here though.

Cool, thanks. I think I will just push off for now ... I'm in no rush for an expensive phone ... I do need a GPS though ... will see what second hand goodies I can find, or what I can find on a Vodacom Top Up 135 or 200.

By the way, anyone know the difference between Topup 199 Y4L and Topup 200S ?
