Hi Everyone

I am currently looking at renewing my Vodacom contract - which is currently an Everyday Weekender Plus.

I usually buy Sony Ericsson Walkman based phones which I like and generally don't have any major problems with them.

I do however want to look at alternatives - smart phone(s). I don't really want or need a touch-screen based smartphone.

I ideally also would like to stick to an Everyday Weekender Plus contract so I am willing to pay in a little bit of cash if need be to get the phone that I will eventually decide on. I obviously don't wan't to spend an arm and leg.

I looked at a HTC Snap. Has anyone had personal experience with this phone, if so, please specify the Pro's & Con's you experienced while using the phone...

Thanks

I have been using the Snap now for about 3 months, and I love it.

Pros
Battery Life
Simplicity
Size
Typing SMS/Email is a breeze

Cons
No 3.5mm jack for standard headphones
Camera could be better
Does NOT come with sleeve, Lab88 has nice sleeve for +-R180

Overall i would say if you use your phone for Messaging, Calls and the odd windows mobile app, great. If you want to use the phone for multimedia, you will be rather disappointed.

I like the Snap a lot and would recommend it to anybody that use their phones for communication and not for multimedia.

Hopes it helps.

Thank you for your input.

I do have questions though with regards to a Cons you mentioned: "No 3.5mm jack for standard head/ear-phones" - does it have any connector for head-phones at all (even if it isn't a 3.5mm jack)? Does it ship with any head/ear-phones at all? Secondly, you mentioned I would be disappointed multimedia-wise? Could you please elaborate on that one.

Furthermore, up until now, have you had any other issues where your Snap might be misbehaving i.e. hanging, resetting, signal loss / signall issues, any errors? Is it stable?

I have also read up that apparently the unit runs Windows Mobile version 6.1 (shipped default), but can be upgraded to version 6.5. Is this true? And if so, is it easy or advised to do so?

Sorry for all the questions but I just want to make sure I won't be disappointed. Many thanks

Yes it does ship with headphones, but with a miniUSB plug, the phone only have 1 input slot and thats mini USB. The camera is only 2.0 mp with no flash, so don't except very sharp pictures. The media player does a good job though. This is mostly what I meant by multimedia short comings, you can't really compare it to the iPhone or HD2.

But as for stability, its very very good, never had any issues, signal also very good, never had issues with that.

Mine did ship default with 6.1, but HTC does have a rom update to 6.5, though visually there is little difference. You have to go to http://www.leaf.co.za/pages/support/product.aspx, for the update.

It is very easy to do the update, simply download the RUU_Snap.exe, plug your Snap in on your computer, launch the file and follow the on screen prompts - it's a Snap. ( :D sorry couldn't resit)

I would also recommend to visit a HTC shop (Lab88 or Leaf) and have a look at it in person.

Thank you again for all your help. I just wanted to confirm, have you personally upgraded your ROM from 6.1 to 6.5, and if so, have you had ANY problems with the Snap thereafter? Im just worried that the phone might be unstable of have signal issues.

Lastly, if I may ask, who is your service provider i.e. MTN, Vodacom etc?

I see Nashuamobile are offering the Snap for free on a Topup 135, so it should be free on a Weekender as well.

Yes I did the update myself, was very easy, and no, did not have any issues.

Vodacom; Nashuamobile

Yip, thats correct, Nashua is currently offering the Snap on a Everyday Weekender Plus for R119p/m for 24 months! Good price, thats why I am keen on it.

Dude, if you can give me an estimate, roughly how long does your battery last and how does it compare against your different usages of the phone

Did you get the HTC Snap in the end?

I got one as a company phone and many of the guys who got one are experiencing issues that you can't hear someone on the other side of the line and I heard it is because 3G with HSDPA is enabled. Is this the problem? How can I fix this?

charltvisser - so far, my battery gives me about 3 days on the phone (I use it a lot) but I have also only had the phone a week.
