This phone seems to be advertised everywhere, websites etc...even on the Vcomdirect website, but no one has had stock? Anyone from Vcom that can tell me when this phone will actually be available on contract??

can anyone verify that the following:
This review: http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article724.html

Says that the touch has QUOTE: "The specs? You'll get Windows Mobile 6 Pro powered by a 32bit Texas Instruments OMAP 850 processor running at 201 MHz with 128 Mb ROM and 64 Mb RAM."

While this one: http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article740.html

Says the touch dual has QUOTE:"The HTC Touch Dual is powered by a whopping 400Mhz processor from Qualcomm with 128Mb of RAM and 256Mb of ROM. It's nippy, it's potent, it's.. heck - I think I'd better get to the conclusion.."

So touch dual apart from having 3g/hsdpa is twice the machine ...with no wi-fi ...WTF??
Frankly wi-fi is a dealbreaker - but if I want wi-fi i have to take half the machine and no 3g ...actually no 3g is a dealbreaker so...*round we go*.

I was keen to upgrade from k-jam to the touch, would like the touch becuase of the form factor (I know its mere milimeters from the touch dual but it is soo snug in my hand!) but knowing the dual is twice as powerful will keep me awake at night ...say it aint so!

get the TYTN II

Dude, is this your version of the 'Get a Mac' ads?? :D

I do not want the Tytn II I have a k-jam I find that the form factor does not suit me due to its rather unwieldy and cumbersome size ...not that I like to wear 'Bee Gees' pants or anything but I find that its just that side of pocketable.

The Tytn II has a similar form factor to the k-jam.

I do like the touch it is s-m-a-l-l-e-r *'quotes' hand gesture and pinky to lips Dr. Evil like* due to this s-m-a-l-l-e-r form factor I am interested in upgrading to one but I see that it is not as powerful as its bigger brother (in fact its less than half as powerful) however the site that I got that info has me in doubt about how thoroughly researched the articles are.

Aaanyway... to answer my own question: a bit of googling has confirmed that the info posted above is in fact (and sadly) correct.

To the OP: I apologise - nothing that I have posted here even barely hints at answering your question but maybe considering the features and specs of the two devices you'd do better looking for the Touch Dual?

best of both worlds...

If 3G and Wifi are dealbreakers get the new Touch Cruise, it has 3G, Wifi, GPS and a better camera (3.2MP) than the standard Touch and the Touch Dual. Its a teensy bit bigger than the Touch Dual. Another thing you should know is that the Touch Dual and Touch Cruise are more finger friendly than the original Touch, but then again, you can "upgrade" your Touch to be just as finger friendly.

The only problem here is that the phone was released recently, so you'll wait a while before you can get it or the Touch Dual over here, unless you import it.

Yea, the cruise isn't bad looking either, saw it on Giz a few days back so as you say: brand spanking. GPS is a nice 'touch' tho;)

Thanks for all the advice, guys, unfortionately no one has actually tried to answer my original question?

True.
Maybe you should post in the Vodacom Broadband (3G, HSDPA, EDGE) section and get the attention of one of the Vcom dudes that watch those areas ...they may be able at least to point you in the right direction?

We tend to get carried away.

Find out from Leaf (SA suppliers) if they have stock, if they have stock, some Vodacom store somewhere should be able to order it for you. Leaf delivers within one working day via courier, so I doubt you'll wait more than a week (I think..) to get it from your Vodacom store.

Mailed them [email protected], no reply to date. You can try phoning there sales dept, tried holding on for more then 20 minutes without any answer! Makes me wonder what happens if something goes wrong with an HTC, what kind of support can one expect if no one can be reached!

Also pissed me off when I wanted to buy a Touch from them (I ended up importing it). Have you tried PM-ing Supaspud? He works there.

FINALLY got hold of HTC, I was given a cell number to contact. THe lady informed that they had delivered stock to Vcom three times in November, the last date being 16th November, yet I've had abackorder since the 1st November at Vcom. Doesn't make sence to me. Contacted VodacomDirect, and they also don't have stock. Moral of the story, NO ONE seems to know anything!

Did she perhaps tell you how much stock Vcom was given each time?

Yes, maybe they ordered 2 or 3. You can always get a cheap phone on contract with one of those R3000 game vouchers and use the R3000 to buy the phone (You'll have to pay in about R2000-2500) and order it direct from Leaf.

By the way Leaf isn't HTC, they're just a dealer/supplier.
