Hi GURU's

I received my HTC today and am very excited.

Only thing is I live in Cape Town and the weather service does not list it as an option. I tried to ask Dr Google but could not find anything.

Do any of you know if I can tweak it so that I can get the weather for Cape Town?

Any help much appresiated.

Pop on over to forum.xda-developers.com.

If you search for "HTC Home" weather, you should find something. The weather app gets its info from Accuweather(.com) ... Through some link manipulation from their site, with the correct codes added to the xml file, you can pretty much get any location's weather.

There used to be an additional step in the process (piping information through another server), but I believe that is not valid anymore, and you need to replace a specific dll with a hacked one.

HTC Touch, Weather

I have tried Wessies' procedure, but, Cape Town is not even on the list of South African cities (rather weird, seeing that it is perhaps the 2nd or 3rd biggest city in SA, yet it has some rather insignificant villages). If one types in "Cape Town, South Africa", one actually gets Cape Town's weather, but, the format is not as Wessies suggests, i.e. Region|Country|State|City. And this is where I fall out of the bus, for nowhere is there a list of the 2/3-letter codes for this "formula" which I can use for Cape Town.

The "formula" for South African cities is, e.g. Bloemfontein AFR|ZA|SF003|BLOEMFONTEIN
and for Johannesburg AFR|ZA|SF004|JOHANNESBURG and for Pretoria AFR|ZA|SF004|PRETORIA

Thus, apart from the different city names, the 3rd part of the "formula" also differs(SF003; SF004).

Can someone please advise what the SF code for Cape Town, or perhaps more specific, Langebaan is. Johannesburg and Pretoria are in close proximity and share the same SF code; I therefore assume that Langebaan and Cape Town will also share a code.

Check this link:

There's your code right there

Thanks LandyMan. Life's real easy when you ask the right people :D

New Problem!

I cannot copy the modified file back to the Mobile\Windows folder and get the following message:

Cannot copy HH_WeatherCities: Access is denied.
Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type.

The fille attribute shows it is read-only, but the attributes are greyed out so one cannot change it.

What do I do now?
