HTC TyTN II (Codename: Kaiser)

Me using a Cingular 8125 now (rebaged Imate K-Jam), TI processor is really slow and want a PPC with intel CPU, I just don't understand why HTC always put cr@p processor on their phones, TI 850 series for how many phones now? Even the latest Touch.......This quantumn appraently is cheap and intergrated most of the functions, maybe that's the only reason why HTC used it here, just like those Samsung 400 in Tytn.
I want a O2 XDA Atom life or Flame. The new Imate also seems quite nice.

One more thing, does it come with free maps for Tomtom?
Thanks guys

No GPS software comes with the phone. Navigon software is availble to purchase. Handymap Ai Gold works nicely (I don't experience a lag that is problematic - updates seem to come through fine).

Evaluating TomTom 6 at the moment which I find really nice.

Hi Peeps

I have been doing some research on the TyTN II and it seems it has a few bugs but just wondering if these bugs have been sorted before its release here in SA.

Please note these are problems that users overseas have found

1/ The backlight goes off about 10 seconds after you start a phone call. Therefore you cannot take note after that nor can you respond to a voicemail by tapping a number on this dark screen.
2/ The screen does not respond after about five minutes or more of taking a call and you cannot access the start button.

3. The lock function is temperamental. The screen states that the device is locked, yet the buttons are still active.

4. The touch screen with the stylus is not very responsive

4. The time keeps changing to GMT +1, regardless of how many times I change it back to GMT.

Gonna keep researching and see what other bugs the phone has.

TyTN II SA owner please reply and let us know if these bugs are relevant to the SA handsets or have they been fixed.

what bugs have you found?

Same here, I also use TOMTOM NAVIGATOR 6 and Handymap AI gold. I experience lag on handymap but probably because of my CPU. TOMTOM has better functionalities, Handymap good UI. BTW what version is your TOMTOM 6 maps? And handymap supposed to release new update to maps last month.

The first two points seem to be similar. It is very seldom that I want to take a note whilst taking a call, but if I do, you just push the on/off button and it comes right. I have only noticed this problem when I am using BT headset or BT in the car.

3. The lock function is temperamental. The screen states that the device is locked, yet the buttons are still active.
Never seen this happen once.

4. The touch screen with the stylus is not very responsive
I have had no problems with this. As responsive as the TyTn - perhaps he need to recalbrate the screen. System | Settings | Screen.

5. The time keeps changing to GMT +1, regardless of how many times I change it back to GMT.
Never had this happen. I am on GMT+2.

Only time that my time was changed was where Handimaps was autoupdating my time off GPS and stuffed it up.

Gonna keep researching and see what other bugs the phone has.

Keep them coming - will update where possible. I am on ROM ver 1.56.405.5 with a date of 28/08/2007. Radio version is 1.27.12.11 and protocol is 22.45.88.07H

I havent had any crap with the TyTN II, yet.
I came across the Time Zone issue when i test drove the P3600 with the Dopod WM6 ROM that enabled the GPS on the P3600.

Where did you get hold of the issues list?

Anyone ready to swap for an E90 yet? LOL... I upgraded my firmware on it, so it flies now, except I hate this damn OS... Its me unfriendly, I miss my WM phone. :D

Good luck with that hey ... Dont despair, I still see loads of guys walking around with Nokia Blinkers ( similar to the one they use on horses to keep them looking in one direction ) you might just get lucky

Yeh.. I thought I'd give nokia a try again, but really don't like Symbian, I feel limited. Its a reasonable phone now that most of the bugs are fixed, and the screen resolution is great, but I just can't get used to it.

Dude i know the feeling ... Once you go Windows Mobile it is hard to use anything else. it is almost like going from DSTV to SABC ... Noooooooooo

the WM platform for me is unrivaled for one simple reason, the device can pretty much be bent to your will, with the addition of an application that suites your needs. there is no other platform that offers this ...

For now it is unsurpassed, it should get interesting next week when we get the first Glimpse of the G-Phone, which is not really a phone, but a open source platform for just about any device.

can anyone tell me which flavour of the tytn2 mtn has on offer - is it the one with both cams or only 1 cam?

only occurred to me know that i never asked them....

got mine yesterday, and it is the "pro" with both cams.

i'ver read on various spots on the net that there are three flavours. both cams, only the back for snapping and then no cams...

The lag you get could be caused by the assisted GPS and not the CPU. If you check the data stream in handymap you will see the data actaully gets fed in short bursts instead of a constant stream

Yes I saw the same thing. But why does other applications works smoothly? The only application that lags is Handymap. That just tells me that it is a software issue on Handymap's side, not anything to do with the WM6 or the TyTn2
