HTC TyTN II network trouble

I installed the official TyTN II upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 in June 2008. Over the past three weeks, when network type and band are both set to "auto", the device finds signal but within 10 seconds the network status changes to "no signal". Signal briefly returns every few minutes, but then the "no signal" message returns.

I have hard-reset the device, as well as reinstalled the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM, however the problem persists. No combination of settings in phone settings under "band" and "network" resolves the problem either. The problem also does not depend on my location. The only way I can get any network access is by changing the "network type" to "GSM" and change "band" to either "auto" or "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)", however I then cannot access 3G / HSDPA, only GPRS - as I use my device as my primary modem, this is particularly painful!

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

I've got the same problem with my TyTN II. But this network problem is only in Pretoria. Ive tried everything, and now I've switched to the touch diamond (whose screen has broke about 2 times because of overheating) and that seems to work perfectly (network wise....) So maybe this is something to do with only the TyTN II? Do you thing if I send it in to HTC, they will be able to fix it? Its not worth paying about R9000 for a phone that doesnt work, so I'm kinda p*ssed with HTC...

i had this exact same problem with my device for so long that i nearly smashed it. before resorting to violence i thought i'd try visiting a service centre (i'm with mtn). so this dude takes my sim and puts it into a machine that checks it for errors. turns out my sim was riddled with errors and caused my issues on my tytn2

after that fix things went back to perfect. edit: actually the errors were not recoverable so i had to do a sim swap...

issues i had were inability to make / receive calls and sms's intermittendly, dropped calls, signal fall out / regain and slow start up or hang upon start up.

Win Mobile 6.1 upgrade on TYTN2

wicked! I have the same problem, but not only in Pta, different areas, different times of the day. Phone looses signal, and if I switch off phone (flight mode) it doesnt want to online again, unless I restart
I started thinking its the phone that busted, but (maybe co-incidence) MTN has been having so much crap last few days, that even if I put another sim in my phone, same problem, or if I put my sim in another phone same problem.
But today I put my sim in a 'normal' basic phone, and it stays connected to the network... although it could just be plain GSM signal, as the phone is not EDGE or 3G/HSDPA capable.
I have been wondering if it could not be the sim... its quite old, u know, everytime renew phone contract, get new phone, continue using old sim
I'm busy downloading the WinMobile6.1 upgrade from HTC site... thinking the OS on the phone may not be healthy anymore, so re-install may help.
Can't find instructions for a full 'format & re-install" so I'll try the upgrade first.
If that doesnt help, will get Nashua Mobile to check the simcard.
This no-network shiit only started from about last week

the "formal & re-install" you're referring to is known as a hard reset. on a tytn 2 u do it via holding the two soft keys in front (they look like little hyphens) and doing a soft reset. the system will reset and notify that you will lose all data etc. then if you agree it will proceed to loading the current ROM fresh.

hmmm.... maybe I should do that before doing the upgrade to v6.1.
losing all... I know that would happen.... I've put so many loose programs on in the past year +... but then... thats part of why I want to reset :) ....
will have to re-install (especially the proper GPS software, navigation and other)
will first copy all my Word/Excel files
I think all docs & downloaded progs are on the flash disk... shouldn't be affected?

i usually remove my flash disk during a flash. if any application was installed to your flash disk you will have to re-install it
