HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Guys, I am synchronising with my MacBook Pro (3rd Party software to link to Pocket PCs). I don't see a backup option anywhere on the TyTN (I want to do a firmware upgrade, but need to back it up first).

Also, where is the cheapest walk-in shop to get a 2Gb Micro SD?

Thanks

Landyman, i've also got a MacBook, do u use MissingSync? If so, u can make a backup of it with that - however, Missing Sync does not work on Windows Mobile 6, because u need activesync 4.5 for it to work.

I have the same problem.

I backup my stuff via Outlook under Parralels, alternatively you can install BootCamp to emulate Windows XP, then install Outlook there and sync with that via ActiveSync 4.5

I spoke to MissingSync's guys and they said they do not support ActiveSync 4.5 / WM6 yet (obviously cause it's not officially released yet)

So in short... you're gonna lose all your notes and Office Document files etc etc on your phone when you do a sync back to your phone after you've upgraded your ROM.

It's a shame tho, cause the Black 2.5 ROM is pretty nice looking and also has a nice backup utility built-in...

There is a SMS and PIM backup utility available, can't remember what was loaded on WM5 originally.

The rest of the stuff you can copy manually.

The PDA Shop in Lynnwood Rd. Got mine for R400 "phast" and it is still going strong. Or try the Computer Corporation store in Reds Mall. Thye have cheapies as well.

Yep, I use Missing Sync. I was considering using Parallels and Activesync to do funnies like backups, rom updates, etc. but I am trying to keep my Parallels WinXP as light as possible.
Considered using Bootcamp a while ago, but the booting from External HDD is a bit of an issue (wanna keep my OS X clean of MS files)

One of the reasons I won't "upgrade" to WM6 yet, is because of the Missing Sync compatibility issues.

Thanks for your response!

Lynnwood is a bit out of my way
Damn, I was in Mall@Reds yesterday ... went to the Vodashop, but when the guy told me it is R900 I burst out laughing and walked out :D Didn't even think of going to the PC shop

Hmm, I guess it is time to rip out the DVD with all my Pocket PC programs on that I used on my HP iPaq to install all the nice goodies again

Howzit Guys & girls.

I'm having problems with using my TYTN as a modem with Cisco VPN. When it used to be normal wireless modem it worked fine, but this Internet connection haring doesn't cut it at all.

This is only when I use it over USB. The bluetooth PAN works fine.

Any ideas how to fix it, or get the wireless modem feature back?

Tx a mil

Just so u know - i've started updating my ROM with Parallels via ActiveSync etc etc...

I've only had a problem WAAAAY back when i installed the very 1st ROM from Kyphur.

Since then i've sucessfully upgraded plenty times with Parallels - just keep the Auto Connect USB thing switched on otherwise OSX will grab it back from Windows sometimes when the phone resets into bootloader mode.

Slightly off topic - i've also found that you shouldnt' fiddle too much with the parallels "partition", what i've got now is a "Work" one, and a "Play" one - installed seperately (not cloned). That seems to work pretty good!

Yeah, I don't doubt that it will work perfectly via Parallels, my only issue is the backup of the device ... don't feel like re-doing all my settings and what-not

Off topic as well :p : I haven't had any issues with my Parallels partitions, except with the last install (used a modified XP install disk to enable booting into XP off external USB devices) - had a few issues. I have a "clean" Parallels disk copied to DVD, with all the XP patches etc loaded, so whenever I screw something up, I just copy it over and use it clean.

Do any of you guys know how to write up your own CAB file?

I was thinking if anyone smart could write up Carrier CAB files for Vodacom?

It's such a mission to setup after each new ROM upgrade.

Not a bad idea as the one from Leaf suffers from a serious amount of bloat.

It does not take that long to set up Networking and MMS manually, so not a biggy for me.

Might make life easier, but I see the development slowing down once the official ROM's are released.

The leaf litter would still be there ................

SMS validity period?

Hi all,

Is there any way to extend the validity period for SMS messages on the TyTN? 12 hours just ain't enough :)

Thanks

Howzit People.

I stuffed around with my network adapters and made all of them DHCP. Could someone please check which one(s) should be specified and let me know.

Tx

If i am not mistaken all of them are set to DHCP by default. the only time you would need to change it would be if the network doesnt have a DHCP server.

Eish, long story :D I basically need to know when someone switches on their phone

Sounds sneaky ...
most handsets allow you to change the SMS validity period. on Vodacom you can set it to one month max... i dont think the TyTN has this option though. you could change it in the registry with a registry editor if you know what you are doing ...

I'm sure one of them was a static. When ever I plug my phone into the USB it takes a minute or so then on the phone it says:

Pocket PC Networking

Unable to obtain server-assigned IP address.......

Never used to do that.
