HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Thanx for your help guys.. Who stocks those Holux ones, i wanna test it 1st before just buying it over the internet so i can do the comparison.

@ landyman. Tnx for the tip. Just to confirm I go to Programs then Sim Manager, the first screen has no information, just the following headings "#" "Name" "Phone" and nothing listed under them, but if I click on Menu then Tools then List of Own Numbers, it now shows 4 numbers, under name it says "Voice Line 1" "Voice Line 2" "Data" "Fax" and under the heading phone the information is blank.

Are you suggesting I delete those?

Yep, that is the correct place ... bbuuttt: I had actual phone numbers in there (from the old days where you had a fax, 2400 and 9600 line for data). I removed the numbers, and viola. The headings still remain, but there are no entries in the Phone fields

Limnos

I bought the RoyalTek (BT GPS x-mini (RBT-2100) ) from the little cornershop at Vodaworld - just before the coffeeshop on the right for R1000. It's normally bundled with the Route66 software, but they do sell it seperate. SIR III chip and the nice is that it uses a Small Nokia Li-Pol battery (generics sells for R150) which you can replace after a while. I know that the Holux 240 uses a "build in" battery that needs soldering to replace.

Genuine a brillant device. I get 12 signals at home (with a concrete roof and small windows)

Here is a link - http://www.royaltek.com/index.php/content/view/83/62/

Cheers

re-install activesync. Run the install file, and select repair. let me know wether that works out, there are other things you can try.

My desktop still won't co-operate but I got my device connecting to Activesync again on my laptop. How long is Step 1 supposed to take, mine was just sitting there for __ minutes with "Initializing" displayed in the DOS box and the sync arrows going round on my device.

According to the instructions file also in that same .zip file there is a manual option as well. Is safe to do the upgrade that way?

I think this is the hit! Shot for the help gents! Will let u know when i come right!

The long awaited Black Dymond..............

Coolest gps on the market, we use them at the office, never thought they could make one that sleek. I'm using the 236 which is pretty much the same chipset, but with a bigger battery (and case of course). If I charge it once a month that's a lot!

I'm running tomtom6 with the SA maps, love it.

I am waiting for my 240 i got it from eBay for $83 i want to run tomtom6 on it do i need to buy SA maps+application or just SA maps? and does it run well on tytn running pro black 3.0? i have a 2Gig memory card installed.

@ LandyMan. Now I don't have any numbers listed for those headings, what would happen if I remove the headings themselves?

How's that for a spanner in the works?

You need to buy the maps & the app. HandyMAP SA also works very well.

Hmmm. Just installed TomTom 6.03 w. SA Map. will check it over the next few days and see how it compares to handymap & garmin.

I tried removing the headers this morning, you know, just to make sure :) but they reappear right after you delete them ... so maybe this is not your problem :(

Hmmm, maybe it's something with the sim card, since you said when you tried another one it worked. So i'm thinking I got a Voda 32K card, so why don't I just buy the 64k and try that out?

I just wish this problem happened to more people to help find a solution faster. Weird thing is the same thing happens with any of the WM6 Roms.

Okay, quick GPS app review:

I had a Garmin Nuvi 310. It was pretty good, easy to uses very handy features etc and got the job done. But the maps and SW only works with Garmin hardware, you pay for any map updates and the devices are expensive.

so when I bought my TyTn, I sold it and got handymap AI Gold. I bought a bluetooth GPS receiver cheap off ebay, and away we go. I was really impressed by it. It worked perfectly, and I did not miss the Nuvi at all. I quite liked the idea of not leaving an expensive GPS hanging from my windscreen to tempt all & sundry.

So this afternoon I checked out nav4all at www.nav4all.com They claim to have FREE GPS nav software! I downloaded, got it hooked up and it actually works. It is free, so its rather basic, not nearly as nice as handymap. But it will definitely do the trick, and you don't really need the funky 3D nav of handymap, nav4all works just fine. The problems is that it does not work of a map installed on your device. It looks like it downloads the local area info from you phone internet connection as you go along. not cool

Finally, I got also tried the latest version of tomtom navigator today. OH MY WORD! this puts everything else to shame. Handymap does'nt even come close. It is beautifully optimised for PDA use. you set it up for left hand use, so you use your left hand whilst driving. All the buttons are big enough so you can use your left thumb to access any menu option whilst driving. The interface is so simple a child could use it. The 3D nav is stunning, and you can download about 20 different colour schemes for it.
And the navigation is great. While handymap always tried to take me in the most direct route to the nearest national road, this one guided my via provincial roads, much less traffic and higher speed limits.
And the celebrity voices thing rock! I am currently undecided between having John Cleese or Yoda guiding me.

So, hope that helps.
