HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Thank You - Here Goes

1) How do i assign an MP3 file as a sms tone
2) Is there an app to create profiles (like nokia's profiles)
3) How do u make the damn alarm louder or assign an MP3 to the alarm clock.
4) There is no backup/restore option on Activesync

Sorry for basic questions - but im getting frustrated trying to get info

Okay, as most of us here are on Windows Mobile 6 Roms, some settings might be different from that of a normal WM5 ROM as the TyTn is shipped with.

1. copy your mp3 file to the "My Ringtones" folder in your My Documents folder on the device.
Then go to start>settings>Personal>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications
Select: Event>Messaging:new text message
tick the "Play Sound" and select your mp3
2.You need a 3rd party app, like http://www.pocketzenphone.net/PZPForum/index.php, or this on freeware:http://www.winmobileapps.com/device/pocketpc/plt/plt.aspx
3.Once your mp3 is copied int the ringtones folder, you can select it as an alarm. The alarm will ring at the volume that the device is set to. For more functionality, get "phonealarm" from http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
4. Activesync does not support backing up. It sounds like you just migrated from nokia :D As the all your contact etc is synced to outlook, you don't really need to back anything up. You can just sync it back. For making full backups, you need software like SPBbackup

Thank you so much

Should I upgrade to WM6, if so how hehehehe

First time away from a nokia since 1994 and i dont think im going to regret it, i love this tytn so far, just hope it doesnt let me down hehehe

I just need a louder sms tone and alarm clock for now, ill never wake up with the preset puny beeps - and we use our cellphones as a emergency call out via sms for work (we get like 20 per shift - and if i dont hear my sms, someone's life could be lost)

Thanks once again - hope u dont mind my future n00b questions

:confused:1. copy your mp3 file to the "My Ringtones" folder in your My Documents folder on the device.

That folder does not exsist

:(

Okay, then a quick registry edit should sort you out.

Load your registry editor (something like PHM regedit should work)

Go to HkeyLocalMachine>nls>overides

edit the SLDte value so that the data reads: dddd, dd MMMM, yyyy

power down the device by keeping in the power button. switch back on.

Did that but I'm still seeing this date on today screen (03 June 2007 instead of Sunday, 03 June 2007).

Very confusing:confused:

could anyone tell me the directory where sms tones r kept so i can add my own.

U should go to My Documents/My Ringtones
If u cant find it just put them anywhere (it worked for me while I was still on WM5). But to get good assistance YOU HAVE TO UPGRADE TO WM6. Let me know if u need help with that.

I don't even HAVE an SLDte value .... little odd

gonna try those directories but reluctant to upgrade to wm6 cos of the waranty issues

yeah, its a good idea to run the phone for a while first to make sure there are no hardware problems that require a warranty swop in.

As for me, I have the "SSDte" and it currently looks like this: dddd/ dd MMMM/ yyy ( I also tried this: dddd, dd MMMM, yyyy) but still did not help!
Very wierd!!!

well, different ROM cooks = different registries. Too bad :(

Ah, well, since its not anything serious we'll just have to leave it at that. So far my phone works well! No issues whatsoever (atleast 4 now).

Radio Rom v1.41.00.10

Hi

In this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303378&page=18

In the above thread they mention that radio 1.41 uses dual-band UMTS for 3G (operates on 850 & 1900 MHz).

On what band do we operate in SA?. Does it affect battery life when using different bands? Is this radio recommended? I am in an area with no 3G, only edge.

Can someone pls explain

I'm not very much clued up about this things, but apparently when the phone 'switches' from EDGE, 3G & HSDPA it uses much battery power.

BUT you can disable HSDPA connectivity from one of the apps suchs as HTC Custom, etc. But in your case I guess there's no need to upgrade to that Radio if you only have EDGE access!

I'm not sure what others think of this?

Updating to 1.41 will still be beneficial to you. 3G does use more battery life, so if you are not using it, switch it off.

On your phone go to: start>settings>personal>phone>band

Change Network to GSM
change Band to GSM (900+1800) + UMTS (2100)

that should give you the best battery life.

sigh i dunno wot to do, upgrade this upgrade that - i dont wanna void anything.

However, i still cant find the correct place to put mp3 for sms tones - none of the options have worked so far

LOL
