Howzit guys, looking to get this baby... What are everyones opinions on it? Apparently it has quite a crappy display, i wanna know if it will be worse than my iPod touch (3G)? Would you recommend it?

Had mine for a good 5 months or so now. I think it's amazing value for money. It's basically a baby HTC Desire - yeah, the screen's not as sharp, but that's hardly an issue as far as I'm concerned. For me, there's only 2 issues - processor could do with more juice, and the soft touch buttons at the bottom of the phone are a bit too easy to trigger by accident. But for less than half the price of the Desire (at least when I was looking), I think it's a steal.

Yeh, i love my Wildfire too. Good value for money.

The screen can be a bit difficult to read at times when surfing the net, with its low resolution, but its not that much of a trainsmash. Cant run any of the cool cpu-intensive apps (not even angry birds, zumas revenge!) but simple games works fine. The camera is not that great and takes a while to learn all the little tricks needed to get a good shot - but it IS possible eventually.

But the only reason I am shopping around for another phone is the battery life. On a full charge, I get about 12 hours before the low battery warning starts wailing. Total shut down in about 14 hours. (This is with GPS off, wifi on for about 6 hours, mobile internet on for 6 hours, gtalk running, minimal calls. I mostly use my phone to stay connected via Gtalk). I think I might need to buy a second battery. To put it into perspective, same usage on my Samsung i780 - battery runs dead after 3 days - about 72 hours.

Thanks for your feedback guys! These issues aren't so bad for me, as I already have an iPod touch, so I use that for gaming, and browsing... I'm just looking for a temporary phone(till July) and I want a feel of android.... Is it a good phone just to SMS, FB, make phone calls and just a lil bit of browsing? battery life ain't so bad, as I don't think it can be worse than my iPod, it lasts like 8 hrs, and plus I'm only going to school and back:)

Oh yeah, I forgot... How does the display compare to an iPod 3G?
And is the black Wildfire available at vodashops? I phoned today, and they said they only have brown

For SMS, its great! (Download Handcent, works a treat! I love it.) Facebook- the built in HTC app is a bit weird, but download the Facebook app for Android from the market, works beautifully. The built in Internet Browser works really well for me, and the Youtube player as well is awesome - especially if you are running off wifi. Let us know what you think of it, when you get it.

Thanks dude :) So excited now, only getting it on wed (But knowing S.A it will only arrive next week, or year) but when i do get it, i will def come here and brag :p

I read somewhere, that you can start downloading apps before you get your phone... How do i do this? (Dont judge, its my 1st android phone)

2nd double post FTW

This is done with an app called AppBrain. You register on the website, and when you get the phone, install the app on your phone and sync. Something like that. Haven't done it personally because I don't really download apps. But this is a very underrated phone, you'll be happy with it.

The display is half the resolution of the iPod Touch, so it would be worse. BTW I applied for the Wildfire on the current Topup 135 special, for R99 / month. Apparently stock will only be available at the warehouse on the 3rd March, and will take a couple of days to reach the stores. If you look, however, you might find a store that has stock.

The Optimus is like double the price (According to pricecheck.co.za)!
NVM, pricecheck had it for 5000, but MyBroadband said its 2500, i just phoned vodashop, and they said that they dont keep stock? Where else could i get it then?

R5000 is rather high, you can probably get a high-spec Android device for that price. R2500 sounds realistic. Try Bidorbuy

I am considering this phone too. It fits perfectly into my price bracket at R99pm. :) I really really have my heart set on the Motorola Milestone 2 (would even settle for the 1!) It has such a rich feature set and the dock is an awesome touch. No one in my town stocks it as they say that Moto is totally unreliable. Ive owned 3 of them over the years and loved every one. My SLVR L7 which I bought second hand at least two years ago, is still perfect excepting battery life which is about 8 hours with moderate internet use and smsing, few calls - this would change on a smartphone of course, id push it past any limits ever conceived hehe. The one thing I like about the Moto Milestone 2 is that it comes with Android 2.2, but I read somewhere that the Wildfire is or is soon to be upgreadeable to 2.2. Can anyone confirm this? Im new to Android so I dont even know what the diff is, but newer is always nicer eh? Unless its MS we're talking bout :P I'm itching to go right to my nearest vodashop and get one, but I'm still a little indecisive. What would you guys recommend as the next best thing (counting quality vs value for money)?
