HTPC for 42 inch HD LCD TV

I have not been following harware for long now and I need to get back into the game, I decided to get the following items for my TV for weekend gaming and general multimedia purposes. Please advise me where I could improve for my budget of R14K.

Mobo - you can get a lower spec, doubt you need such a high end mobo. Alas, do not have a replacement suggestion right now, I never get mATX boards
CPU - intel/amd whatever. Both i5 and 955 are good and same price
RAM - dont need 3 sticks, i5 only runs in dual channel
HDD - only you will know your space requirements, but price looks good
DVD - no comment, they are all the same essentially
GPU - get a 5850 rather, single GPU solutions are much simpler, just check if it will fit in that case of yours
Case - depends on your personal taste and preference but again, price looks good for a HTPC build
PSU - very important, you may want to spend some of your left over budget here but 650W is enough

You overkill on the CPU, mobo, PSU and then skimp on the GPU?? The GTS250 is so underpowered. And what about a HDD? Even the sound card is overkill, unless you really really need to have perfect sound. Most mobos produce sound that most people will be more than happy with. I really dont see what that list has to do with a HTPC at all

Wow, you guys are smoking some seriously strong crack if you consider that a HTPC by any definition of the word - that's purely a gaming pc. Also, it'll be pretty noisy - not something you want out of a HTPC.
First, an i5 will be fine, even for some moderate gaming, and it'll keep the noise factor down if you invest in some proper fans and a cooling setup as well.
The PSU is important, so spend some cash there.
Graphics wise, I'd go for something like one of the above users suggested - ATI 5850.
Maybe consider a bluray drive if you feel you have some money to burn, otherwise just get any name-brand DVD burner.
For the rest, there isn't much in it, to be honest. Find what you like and what you can afford. How are you going to interface with the machine? The Dinovo mini is an excellent solution you may want to consider.

Thanks for your input, but I'll look to take above mentioned hardware without 3 sticks of ram, my problm is i dont think the new range of ATI ,Nvidia cards will fit in that case, Im looking then for the same sized cards even older spec to sli or xfire with. Just need all to run smoothly on the tv.

Woops, yes i made a mistake with the GPU (Had it on my list to let a friend know when it was in stock ) Here is what it should have been GPU
About the HDD you already said its up to him how much space he requires so theres no need to put it on.
This is what i use, its not just for HTPC but for gaming aswell thats why you might say its "Overkill".

I had a suspicion that the case was the reason behind getting the 5750's... Are you dead set on getting that case? I could try find either smaller GPU's (though the 5750's are probably the best performers if you're tight on space) or a bigger case.

And, Onizuka, why get old tech for your GPU? DX11 has amazing effects, you'll kick yourself within 6 months if you get a card that can only do DX10/10.1. If you really must have nVidia then be patient and wait for the fiery (read power consuming and hot) GTX470/480 that should launch around April
