Hi everyone!

I think i should start looking into replacing my 42" sinotec with a 3d,LED maybe 47" tv....

I was thinking about selling my HTPC (a zotac MAG) and save the money toward a smartTV.

I am really used, and enjoy the XBMC Interface, can a smart TV with DLNA offer me a similar experience?

I will also need to change my whole set up as the zotec is on 24/7 running sickbeard and sabnzbd.
Is smart TV worth it? or should i stick to XBMC.

Not with DLNA, but a SmartTV (Samsung or LG) running Plex is pretty much the same, with the added benefit of no extra boxes, cables, remotes, noise etc.

I was playing a little with PLEX and my XBOX last night.
It worked, but slow, and didn't get the nice interface, just a list of files , no photos or fan arts....is it because of the XBOX?

Edit: Seems like LG are calling it media link?

Plex on the Smart TV is cool .... it does scrape and it has the same interface as the PC version. It isn't quite as fast - but one feature I do miss is music .... it doesn't do music or photos!

Where's as on a HTPC, you get the music and photos

Thats using DLNA, and Plex's implementation is currently rubbish.

If you need to support DLNA clients (dont have the ability to run the Plex client), Serviio is a much better option. You can run Plex Media Server (with DLNA disabled) & Serviio on the same PC, both using/accessing the same media file directory structure.

Yep.

Thanks for explaining.
I thought plex=dlna

I think i will stick to my HTPC

No its more like a client-server version of XBMC designed to support multiple (embedded) clients e.g. TVs, STBs, PCs, phones, tablets etc. in multiple locations all sharing a common media & metadata database across LAN, WiFi or even Internet.

Plex's DLNA support is just a recent addon, that still needs a lot of work before it can match speed/features of established DLNA servers like Serviio.

One of the devices I am using as a Plex Client host is the Samsung BD-D5500 and can do music. Have you tried this option?
