Hi guys

need help

just bought the following equipment:

sony kdl-46v3000
sony DDW 885 AV Receiver

*I dont have any player with a hdmi-out*

im new to the AV game, so bear with me pls.
I cant seem to get a picture when connecting the hdmi-out on my motherboard with the HDMi-in on the TV. have tried both hdmi-in inputs on the tv, but to no avail.
I also tried connecting the PC to the AV Receiver and ran an hdmi-out from the AV to the TV. still nothing.
I get a picture when i connect vga from PC to vga on TV.
i am using hdmi 1.3 cables.

am i missing sumtn simple, is it my hardware, cabling, software....

please any comments will be appreciated, im new to this, so what may seem simple to u, might do the trick for me...:o

thanks

Hi there

I'm not too clued up on HDMI, as I've only ever used it once with my best friend's Playstation 3. Check the BIOS of your system and see if HMDI out is enabled. If so, make sure you can select it with the drivers to whatever video card you are using.

I think your cables and everything else should be fine. I know that HDMI sometimes can be a real pain to get working, due to handshaking and encryption stuff.

Good luck and let us know if you make any progress

Thanks Asha'man X :o

Iv been through all the dark corners of my BIOS n havent found anythn related to the HDMI port. Im not using a graphics card. The motherboard i have is the Asus m3n78-hdmi with an onboard 8200 Nvidia Purevideo chipset. I also have the latest drivers installed.

...hmmmm...

On your mobo is a jumper block to switch between dvi/hdmi,behind the hdmi port. That should solve your problem.

Woohoo!!

Thanks guys, problem resolved...

yes Biggie it was the jumpers :)

Thanks to every1 for advice

For any AV noobs who read this, from what i gathered, my motherboard only supports a digital or analogue output together, not 2 digital outputs simultaneously. So theres a jumper restriction for either DVI or HDMi. Its default is set to DVI. a least thats what i understand from it.

As for audio, my AV (Sony DDW885) doesnt allow audio to be processed by the AV if connected via HDMi (pretty useless if u ask me), it sends the whole audio/video signal to the TV. So if u want sound through ur AV system, u wud have to run a separate audio from ur motherbaord and disable the hdmi-audio option in the sound settings. I havent tried running the HDMi from the PC to the TV and then to the AV to see if it would work that way. I also wouldn know the effect on picture and audio quality in that scenario, mayb sum1 can giv input but i'll try n post the results.

Thanks again to all
