Hi guys,

I recently bought a HUAWEI B315s LTE router for my home (Not for LTE though), since we dont have LTE coverage in my area.

I bought it because my default Huawei Telkom adsl router fell and broke.

Is it possible to use this router with my existing DSL line? I tried setting it up last night with no success... Called Telkom and they said it's not "synching"

Does anyone have the configuration for this router for DSL use?

Many thanks !:o

By the way,

I plugged my telephone cable into the RJ11 grey port at the back of it, like I would with a standard ADSL router... (We have no telephone) - we only use the line for data.

It does however have a yellow RJ45 port called LAN4/WAN at the back, but then obviously my RJ11 cable wont fit there?

just put it in the small grey port. use 8 VPI and 35 VCI

Thanks,

But why then does it have a RJ11 port called "Tel" surely this is where your phone line for the DSL connects? it also has a setting for PPPOE like a normal router, but the difference is it's under "Ethernet Settings".. this is weird. You can even set the MTU, like with ADSL router

It's for plugging a phone in

I just got one today, connected it to adsl, but no internet. Then this article helped me. So this modem / router cannot do internet via adsl then.

No it can't unfortunately. If you still want to use it buy the cheapest adsl2+ router. Put it in bridge mode and connect a cat5 cable on the Huawei b315 wan port to any port on the dsl modem. Now change the mode to pppoe + dynamic ip in the B315 and then you can put in the username and password for your isp.

Thank you for that, I do have an old one.

Yeah it works fine like that even for fibre. The connection mode on the B315 is auto so it should detect once you plug in a cable on the wan port. Just login and change it to pppoe + dynamic then you can put a username and password there and custom dns servers if you want. Works great like this and I believe Cellc Fibre also uses this type setup.

You are lucky no smoke came out... It's for VOIP.

Thank you, this works. Only my Explora does not see the router, I think will plug in a laptop on the cable at the explora, then test the cable first. The wifi dstv adopter uses the same ethernet port.

Now also if you want you can setup a SIP (Voip) account in the B315 and plug a normal phone into the B315 then you got Voip running too.

Bloody hell thanks man haha.

Was googling for this. The guys are installing and activating my line today, but the router is only shipping later today or tomorrow. So i have the B315 with LTE at the moment.. i've noticed the pppoe setting but i wasn't to sure if fibre would work.
