Hi,
I need help regarding new problem that appear using HUAWEI E172 with VMCLite.
When I connect to Internet using E172 there are no problems, I can navigate using IE and nothing happen.
The problem appears only when I try to download any file (from Http sites or ftp site).
In this moment VMCLite automatically close it and restart and i must reconnect it to Internet.
Do you have any idea? other people have the same problem?

Best regards

I have the exact same thing with an E172 even after updating the firmware to version B409 (Vodacom still only has B407 on their site).

This really sucks ass and I am begining to think it is a hardware thing as it seems soon as the modem has to go full power (downloading) it just kills itself.

I tried forcing it to use GPRS only but that did not work.

Anyone else with this problem and new HUAWEI E172 modems ?

What computer are you using the E172 with? Desktop, laptop, make, model?

I think Roux is on to something, it might be that your computer is unable to supply enough power on a single USB port. The E220's and E272's, etc all come with a USB cable with two type-A plugs to supply additional power. Does the E172 come with such a thing?

The E172 comes with a single cable. I have had it in various USB ports on the PC (it is a desktop) and it did not make any difference. The only other USB devices connected to the PC is a printer (self powered) and a MSI bluetooth dongle (uses about 100mA).

Its for my old man and I sent him back to the vodashop. Hopefully it is a one off with the E172 otherwise they will have to give him the USB cable that draws power from two ports. But I am unsure of they will actually figure that part out...

I just got an E172 yesterday, but haven't tested the downloads on it yet [had crappy speeds yesterday]. Hopefully it is not a power issue.

The E220 cable is a mini USB to type A usb, while the E172 requires a mA-fA USB cable, so you can't even use the forked E220 cable on the E172.

Why not try the Novatell SUB stick? Im using it, works well.

I've never seen a cable that would be suitable, you may have to make your own.
