I have a Huawei E173 modem from a new MTN contract that I'm trying to get working on an old Toshiba running Win XP. The modem works; I verified this on a Dell running Win7. Under XP though, it keeps telling me "device not found" after installation. I suspect it might be a driver issue, but AFAIK the driver it comes with includes XP compatibility.

The MTN callcentre hasn't been much help. Does anyone here have any ideas of what I can try?

How old is the Toshiba? Does it have USB 2.0 ports?

Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155 (PS113U-05X9YV). I believe it is USB 2.0, but I could be mistaken. Surely if it was only 1.1 though, it would give a high speed device connected to a low speed port warning?

I have a E173 (MTN) that I do run on my Windows XP SP3 desktop with no problems.
Have you deleted any other Modem Dashboard software that may be interfering with it?

Try other USB ports.
Are you able to see the device using Explorer?

Normally as you insert the modem the system should find it and start downloading the Dashboard.
