Huawei E1820 Dead

My modem died this morning. The PC doesn't even pick up that it's connected. No lights come on or anything, so it is definitely dead. I bought it as the R2999 pre-paid package about 2 months ago from Autopage in Northgate. I know it's still under warranty, but the !@#$ing maid threw away my receipt because she thought it was rubbish paper.

Sigh. Is there anything I can do to get it replaced? Will the shop not have a record of the sale or something? Don't know what to do. Sigh...

They should have the router's SIM as well as IMEI on record. That should be enough proof to them that it's still under warranty.

Will give them a call and find out. It was also Rica'd the day that i bought it there. Really hope I can get it replaced. Thanks for the response man.

Also if paid by card i am sure you can find way to show payment & date purchased.
Do they not scan barcode of product as well, so they have that record as well in there db's.

Thats the only problem you might have there. They find the dumbest reasons to make your life difficult.

Well I phoned and told the guy I don't have the receipt. He said that's not a problem, and they will take the modem and send it in to see what the problem is. Quite relieved. Those modems cost a fortune to buy cash.

My first guess would be overheating. It's amazing how hot they get even while just browsing websites. Mine's under a fan now permanently.

Yes mine did get hot as well. It was in the front USB slot on my chassis, so it stuck out. I am wondering if somebody might have walked past and bumped it while plugged in. Really hope they don't come with stories so as not to replace the thing.

@Jer1cho: What was your signal strength on average?

A quick search indicates that the modem's transmit power can vary from -50 dBm (10 nW) to +21 dBm (0.125 W). The transmit power is dictated by the tower and depends on how far a user is from the tower. You could say then it is determined by the received signal strength.

So it would seem that if I am in a bad location I am screwed two ways - one I will get lower speeds and two my modem will get fried, eventually.
