Huawei E220 problem

Hi guys,

Don't know if this is the right place, but I have a problem with my E220 device. I plug it in and it shows that it detects and installs the driver and add the cdrom drive to my computer, but it stops there.

I am trying to flash the firmware of it, to no avail. I have tried the VC, MTN and HUAWEI firmware updates and non of them pick up the device.

Any help on this one?
 
Have you tried it on another USB port?

Some E220 clashed with certain USB chip sets although this usually gave the user the Windows blue screen of death!

It's probably worth trying the E220 on another machine to find out if it's OK before you go any further...
 
Once it has installed as a CD-ROM. It should come up and install everything.

I assume you have done the obvious like unplugging and reinserting the modem and trying to run the application from the "CD-ROM" manually?? It's only when this starts to run does the device get recognised as a modem

If I recall, there is an option to force an upgrade in the Huawei firmware package, but unless you are out of warranty, I'd keep this as a last resort option.
 
I've had the same problem check under device manager under usb controllers there should be a mass storage device and a composite device. If there is only a mass store device delete it. Windows should then redetect and install it completely.

If this doesn't work give me a shout I have another idea.
 
Hey, not sure if anyone will see this post (forum being a little old and what not...) But i've the same problem and unfortunetly I can't just go into the shop.

Story is that I broke my data modem and got another off a friend, problem is it's locked to another network so I tried putting the software from Huawei onto it to see if that would work. It didn't and now won't register on new computers. My own is a mac and I can't use unlocking software on it.

So long and the short of it, I've got this virtual cd-rom coming up but nothing afterwards... And nothing on the virtual cd-rom either, just saying insert disk, Any help would be great

Did the software flashing on the E220 complete successfully?

Yes, That went perfectly and worked up until I took the modem out and replaced the old sim (one that came with it) with the new one. Since then it don't like me.

What happens when you replace the new SIM Card with the old SIM Card?
 
It doesn't make a difference what sim is in it now. Just doesn't recognise the modem as being there. Not sure which they are in terms of 32/64
