HUAWEI E5186 LTEA router discussion thread.

Any one that can advise me what to change on the Huawei E5186 with Telkoms LTE-A to allow for OpenDNS? (like unotelly)
I have registered with unotelly and tried adding these PI's to the Huawei Router's Ethernet Settings: Primary and Secondary DNS Servers and it did not work.
Neither did https://www.opendns.com/welcome/

Please advise.
Ooops! I don't have E5186 with me, using B315s, it has a similar firmware. Answer is no. You can't do it with B315s. What you see, there are options related to Ethernet RJ45 WAN interface, not a cellular connection. For cellular routing there is no manual DNS option. Huawei routers are crippled. If you can't setup DNS options on your device, you need another home router, put its IP address in Huawei DMZ option and connect one of Huawei LAN ports to the router's WAN port by cable. It will pass all Internet traffic to the 'real' router, so you will be able to configure this router according to your needs.

There is a growing tendency of the words "thread" and even "discussion thread" being included in thread titles. Please don't, it is superfluous. This is a discussion forum, we discuss. Threads are the individual discussion items, with bold titles, we all know that. Also leave out the full stop at the end of a title, it is not a sentence.

Thanx so much for your help thus far :). I connected the 2x Routers (Huawei and D-Link).
Any device connected to the D-Link has internet access via the Telkom Huawei.
Now when I try and set the D-Links IP Address (192.168.0.1) in the Huawei DMZ option it says:'DMZ IP Address and IP Address should be in the same subnet. (IP Address of the Huawei is 192.168.8.1).
When I try and change the D-Link IP Address to 192.168.8.2 it says: 'LAN subnet conflicts with WAN subnet'

Please advise.

I don't have Dlink with me, but I think you will figure out yourself. :)

Just a tip: D-Link has two interfaces: LAN and WAN. Each one has its own IP address and has to be on a different subnet. I think 192.168.0.1 is default Dlink LAN interface. You don't need to change it, as Huawei LAN subnet is different. As you say Internet is working, then I am sure that Dlink has already acquired WAN interface IP address and default gateway server IP address automatically from Huawei's DHCP server. You can leave it as is, unless you want to open a path for incoming traffic.

If it is a case, you have to find an option on the Dlink WAN interface and change it to static IP 192.168.8.2 (as you already planned but executed in the wrong place) and also set Default Gateway to 192.168.8.1. On the Huawei router DMZ address must be set to 192.168.8.2

Now you have:

Huawei LAN (192.168.8.1) <-> Dlink WAN (192.168.8.2) <-> Dlink LAN (192.168.0.1) <-> Devices connected to Dlink (192.168.0.x or auto)

Hi,

I am hoping someone can assist me please. I am attempting to connect to my Hikvision DVR. I had a TP link router with ADSL, worked perfectly, no issues. Now I've moved over to Telkom LTE with a Huawei B315s-936 router. The DVR is connected by LAN directly into the router and I have an access point connected into the router and my PVR into that. My PVR says it has no internet connection. When i use Fing (best app by the way, tells you IP addresses of all you connected devices since this modem is too useless to do that for wired devices) it tells me that the devices are down. My devices connected via Wlan have internet. Is this normal or is there something wrong with the router?

I have double checked all the settings on the virtual server, WAN port 8000 and LAN Port 8000 using DynDNS. Still cannot see my DVR.

Thanks for this. I'm my situation I need the computer with a reserved IP to have internet access. When I assign an IP address outside the DHCP it connects the to the network, but not to the internet. Am I missing something?

Yes, DNS server IP and/or default gateway.

Check what is missing. In Windows use command "ipconfig /all"
