Hey guys

My sister has had a Telkom Mobile contract since their 8ta days and recently her 3g mifi device has become a bit iffy. I'm thinking about buying her this bad boy:

After checking that her place does fall under the TM LTE net and the TM shop telling me it's as simple as just buying the device and poping the old sim into it I just want to triple check with anyone who's done this that it's actually that painless and if you guys can give me any other general tips on this device. I was rather sad to find out TM shops don't sell these things separately so I'm hoping buying a generic one won't screw anything up.

Regards,

Chris

Make sure that the device supports 2300MHz TDD. It is not clear from the specs that it does.

Telkom uses 2300MHz TDD for their LTE, if the device does not support this then LTE will not work.

Note that you get different submodels for each modem, with different specs.

Does that mean no? Despite the fact that TM sell this exact device rebranded?
You'll need to find the exact model number, e.g. E5372-32.

I found four different sub-models listed at this site (and there are probably more):

Huawei E5372s-32: FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz (1780mAH Battery)
Huawei E5372Ts-32: FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz (3560mAH Battery)
Huawei E5372s-22: FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz & TDD 2600MHz (1780mAH Battery)
Huawei E5372Ts-22: FDD800/1800/2600MHZ & TDD2600MHZ (3560mAH Battery)

Right so I can't get it off the generic version of this device and TM don't sell these things separately. Amazing...

Sigh. Thanks for your help.

Why do you say that Telkom does not sell this device as a device only sale?
Were you told so at a Telkom Mobile shop?
If so, have you checked a Telkom shop (where you would get fixed line service)?

I was offered the same device at a Telkom shop in Tshwane.

Yep, was told by someone in the TM shop that they don't sell them individually and the TM rep on this forum told me he can't help me as well as no where in the TM brochure do they sell devices without contracts. Thanks for the tip though, I'll go have a look.

Ok. Worrying to know.

I was seriously considering getting one.
Maybe I should go back...

Just make sure it's the LTE version hey. I remember when my sister first got her contract she was offered these dongle all of which only did 3g. But if I see this and it works on TM i'm snapping it up.
