Hi All,

I was just wondering of anyones experiences with the Huawei E5776 modem from TM?
Also is this modem compatible with other networks' LTE??

Thanks ahead!

I bought 1 from afrihost. Very nice device. It has nice battery life. Works well with MTN LTE. Since I'm no where near TM LTE coverage I will not be able to tell you if it works with TM LTE but MTN yet it does.

TM uses 2300MHz TDD for LTE, and not many modems support that.

BTW, these modems all come in different versions, with different specs, so just the model number is not enough information.

Thanks cavedog.

Jola, I realise the issue that you brought up, the issue is finding the specs and model numbers of the E5776 device is almost impossible and then trying to find which mobile operator stocks which one.

I've seen on another thread that the bands are allocated as follows:

1, 2100MHz, FDD, MTN; Cell C
3, 1800MHz, FDD, MTN; Vodacom; Neotel; iBurst
7, 2600MHz, FDD, iBurst
20, 800MHz, FDD, Neotel
40, 2300MHz, TDD, TM (8ta)

So the question that remains is do I get a E5776 from Afrihost/MTN as it will most likely be compatible with Voda, Neotel and iBurst or get it from TM and hope that the other bands are supported.

Any info on the available E5776 models will be appreciated!

cavedog just a quick question, Do you know what version E5776 modem you have? It would be interesting to see what version Afrihost supplies.

Afrihost supplies the Huawei E5776s-601 Bought from afrihost cause they offer it on a stand alone with no contract and allows you to pay it off over 12 months interest free..... You don't even have to take a simcard with them. You just browse to mobile devices and buy it straight there.

Looking at the info below it looks like afrihost sells the 1 that will work with all LTE networks in SA. I can not confirm this though but it should work with all. :)

http://www.twayf.com/huawei-mobile-wifi-e5776-4g-lte-router

HUAWEI E5776s-860:
* LTE-TDD 2300/2600MHz
* LTE-FDD 2600MHz
* TD-SCDMA/WCDMA
* GSM/GPRS/EDGE

HUAWEI E5776s-32:
* LTE FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz
* UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz
* GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz

HUAWEI E5776s-22:
* LTE-TDD 2600 MHz
* LTE-FDD 800/1800/2600 MHz
* UMTS 900/2100 MHz
* GSM 900/1800 MHz

HUAWEI E5776s-601:
* FDD 1800/2600MHz TDD 2300MHz
* TD-SCDMA/WCDMA
* GSM/GPRS/EDGE

EDIT: Ok might also not work with Cell C LTE but with very LIMITED coverage and not officially launched I don't think that should be a game changer

Wow thanks so much cave dog! I don't know how you found out that the E5776 that Afrihost sells is the s-601 but that is great news! Looks like the only networks not covered is Cell C and iBurst.

I was looking at getting it over 12months interest free bcz of the steep price!

I'm hoping to upgrade from an old E1752 and TP-Link MR3220 set-up to the E5776 and want to future-proof myself as much as possible.

Was looking at either the TM 7.5GB (+7.5GB @ night) for R250pm or the Afrihost 5GB for R145pm. The only issue is that I don't have LTE coverage at my place with TM, but am very close to LTE on their map so might just give it a shot for one month.

Can you recommend any Antennas for the E5776?

Thanks again for the help!!

I bought 1 from afrihost 2 weeks back and selected the 12 month option to pay it off. I saw that on the back of my mifi that afrihost sent me so I know the one I got was that model not sure if every e5776 mifi that afrihost sells is that spesific model but doubt they will sell different models....

I am also looking for a decent antenna.

I saw people suggest that antenna but doubt the plug they have will fit in the E5776

I tried contacting Afrihost about their E5776 version and they couldn't tell me what version they stocked immediately, after which the online chat went offline. I'll try contacting them again tomorrow to get clarity on the matter and post my findings

Problem with e5776 - keeps switching to no service

Hi guys, been a daily reader from abroad for many years and finally signed up.

I'm in ZA for a couple of months. Signed up for a mobile data package with afrihost and have an unlocked and re flashed e5776 huawei mifi.

Issue is that my afrihost (MTN) signal keeps switching between a solid signal and the "no service" message. Any ideas what issue can be?

A vodacom sim works fine in the e5776 and the afrihost sim works fine in a spare android phone I carry.

The afrihost sim I received is a combo- sim, and the micro sim portion was clipped out. I obviously aligned the microsim element and the remainder of the plastic when inserting it to the e5776. So, in effect the micro sim is in an adaptor, something the e5776 manual advises against. But surely this can't be the problem? As I get a full signal, it just switches to "no service" on a regular basis.

Hope this makes sense!

The answer comes probably too late for you, but maybe it helps somebody else with the same problem:
You have another provider with LTE and with a similar or better signal who has for unfathomable reasons not set its hardware to refuse you access when your SIM is from the wrong provider but to give you "limited Service". Neotel for example does this.
Now your modem searches an allowed network and sometimes when MTM was just weak it grabs Neotel which connects but "limited". Da!
Set in the modem the network to access fixed on MTN 4G and thats it.
Other possibility is you have run out of data.
