I sent my P9 in a few months back to get a new battery, as something was dodge was the first and it didn't last. They changed everything - battery, motherboard etc.

When I got the phone back, it had no sign of Vodacom - no apps preloaded, no Voda wallpaper etc. I then formatted the phone ... And I had all the Vodacom junk again.

Last week, I won a P Smart and ... No sign of Vodacom again. I haven't formatted yet, but I hazard a guess that if I do, it'll go to Vodacom.

How can we get and keep this non branded copy of Firmware?

The BlackBerry Z10 and later would only show branding if a MTN or VodaCom SIM was inserted. I'm not sure if Huawei use a similar way of branding?

The formatting you speak of, I assume that you mean Factory Reset? If the handset is not branded now, then a Factory reset will not suddenly make your handset branded afterwards. Unless you know exactly the email address and password used to set up a P9 Lite or P Smart, then only Factory Reset via the Setting menu, failure to do so will activate FRP (Factory Reset Protection) and leave you with a high tech door stop!!

That's exactly what it did.

I took my Vodacom branded Huawei P9 in to get repairs. It came back as a factory reset (they changed the motherboard) - so I entered the usual details at the start and the phone was unbranded. I Factory Reset a few weeks later ... and then everything was Vodacom.

I've now got a P Smart as well - unbranded. Put in my SIM and I'm running unbranded ie none of the ****ty Vodacom apps you always get. I bet though, I'll factory reset and I'll get all of those again.

Would be nice to factory reset and NOT have those

I've factory reset hundreds of these devices and never had anything appear that wasn't already on the phone!

The only reason I could use to explain this is if someone had used the hide facility on the handset and after reset these apps would reappear...

I factory reset two P8 Lite's this morning.

I did some more research on this today and provided that you do not fit a Vodacom SIM, the handset will not become branded.

Just as soon as you fit a Vodacom SIM, then the handset will brand itself with all of the Vodabloat! Fitting any other SIM causes no issues!
