Will definitely be at the Johannesburg event

Wow! Very exciting news guys. Thank you for making this possible

Watching this space for news on availability of Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. In the market for decently sized and capable Android phone, in Dual SIM version. Cash buy.

A serious price revision needs to happen on that device. I want one so bad - make it more affordable !!!!!!

Hi please book a spot for me at the jhb launch

Hi

Thanks to Huawei for the presentation & hands-on. We all got to see the device in action & even got to handle it a bit (but no folding). The device seemed solid & functional. The display/s is quite glossy, but it doesn't seem to cause any viewing angle problems.

Why no folding?

That's a bit strange considering it's a folding device.

Is the crease noticeable when fully open though?

How many people attended?

The Huawei guys demonstrated the folding, but we were asked not to try it as it's still "an engineering device". We all saw it being folded multiple times without issue.

Not at all. I don't know how they did it.

Even stranger!

That crease was blatantly visible in the videos initially showing it off at MWC

Just got back from the event.

I must say kudos to the very knowledgeable Huawei representative (gentleman). Threw some "medium to hard" questions at him & he answered everything with the utmost confidence.

Very few of these early prototypes out in the wild. This one arrived from Dubai last night, it's going to Jozi next.

First impression are just wow! This is the next big thing of cellphones. The concept & engineering marvel that went into this is staggeringly impressive.

In the (front) folded position it's very much like a (next gen) Mate 20 Pro. Tiny bezels & no notch (yay!). At the rear due to the hardware & whatnot the screen is slightly less spacious but beats anything Samsung & the like is offering.

As others have mentioned I could not open the device myself but once folded & unfolded I had free rein. The folding & unfolding seemed smooth as to be expected.

Once opened you have this truly stunning AMOLED panel, all 8" of it in this relatively small form factor. The colour reproduction is top notch even at this early stage of the game. I tested out YT & Asphalt 8, screen came into it's element here. The speakers have a great richness & it's properly loud. No distortion.

The Falcon Wing mechanical hinge was explained to me, many patents on this hinge alone. The hinge will have a TUV certification as well. I'm told the hinge (and pretty much the phone) was in development for 3 years.

This is very much an early adopter phone when it comes out in Q2 so it will priced accordingly. You are getting the bleeding edge of tech here.

The is very early software & with my brief time with the device it was impressively smooth.
