I was able to get my hands on the new Huawei Mediapad T5 10". A couple of weeks down the line, and I must say, i am quite impressed. Huawei just keeps rolling out good products.

This bad boy is rocking an Octa-core CPU, running on the Kirin 659 chipset. Huawei are keeping it quite fresh with Android 8.0 with EUMI on top of that, and I have to say, I have become a fan. Yes, there are many people that hate that all of the apps are shown on the home screen. But stop complaining, there is a fix for that. Just toggle the Drawer style home screen and you are set. No need for a 3rd party launcher.

The screen is good, 1920 x 1200 pixels with a 224ppi density. Images are sharp and clear, and the brightness is good. Netflix quality is perfect, the only down side is the dual downward facing speakers which are easily covered when you are watching a movie while laying in bed.

Performance is acceptable when you consider this is a budget tablet. Gaming is somewhat neglected when it comes to the highly graphically intensive games, but looking at the bigger picture, a tablet is not purchased to play Tier 1 games on. Load your angry birds or temple run on here and you are golden.

Speaking of gaming, the T5 comes with, what I think is a brilliant idea, Kids Corner. This gives a parent, such as myself, better control on the content your kid is allowed to access. Being able to set a session time limit, available apps, accessible content, you name it.

Then, the most impressive aspect of it all, the gigantic 5100mAh battery this thing is packing. The low power draw of the T5 is something out of this world. After forgetting it in my backpack for the better part of a week, the battery level was sitting at 74% when I took it out to check my emails. I was astounded to say the least.

Small little details like the headphone jack and the expandable storage via microSD card make this a very well rounded budget tablet. I can highly recommend this to the every-day-joe that is gonna stream shows, game a bit, and check emails from time to time and charge it up every 4 - 5 days. It is well built, has a nice weight to it, and all in all, for R4299, it is worth every cent. According to Huawei it will be in store by mid-december.

Im looking for the M5 medua pad..you know anything about it?Are vodacom gonna be selling the tab you bought?

I still have and regularly use the T1 8". It struggles a bit with Netflix and Showmax, but it's good enough for me.
Battery still go for a few days on standby and with heavy use, all day.

So how does this compare to the M5 Pro?
I love my Xperia Z2 tablet to bits, but methinks sooner or later it will need replacing.

R4300!? That is brilliant, and with that huge 10inch display it sounds like the perfect machine for watching some Showmax, Netflix and YouTube in bed or for kids entertainment on road trips without having to drop a load on an expensive tablet.

Price and battery are the main attraction on this device... Please share more info about the kids corner,, might consider it for my daughter

My old Tablet Z is pretty much been put in a drawer now. Just sort of started acting weird and the OS being stuck on 5 is annoying. 6 years old its served it's time.
This new Huawei sounds like it could take over

Mine is still going strong, but the time will come eventually, I suppose.

Well, that's one way to look like a knob

A BT headset will definitely be the way to go.

I could not figure out why it was telling me to go play outside, but then I realized it wont allow me to use the app before 08h00, lol.

Kids corner gives you somewhat control on what content your child may or may not access. You can set times, choose apps you want to give them access to, choose pictures or videos, enable a blue light filter to protect their eyes, etc. Have a look at the video recording.

16GB space, for device aimed at kids and used for media consumption? Even with a SD card that is a route to annoyance and whining

Why we live in an era of streaming. Netflix, YouTube, Showmax and bam no need to store media on the device.

Personally I wouldn't mind having a bigger storage, that way I can even load a full series on my tablet:)
