HUAWEI Oak OS

What are your takes on the new operating android compatible system being developed by Huawei " Oak Os", are you looking forward to seeing it on the upcoming Mate 30? What are your views?
Hello Amara's Daddy.

I think competition is good. Hopefully it it develops into a well rounded OS. I can't say that I am or am not looking forward to it as I'm not in the market for a new phone at the moment. But someday in the future I surely will be, and then I will see how mature it is.

That is my view.

Nothing to really look forward to for me. When it is officially released, will watch a video or 2 on youtube, might walk into a cellular store one day and look at a live unit with the OS, but that's it. Ends there.

+1 for competition. Many of the device manufacturers have their own flavour of Android anyway, so it probably wont matter what the underlying OS is, as long as it looks the way they want.

But what about Hongmeng OS?
Is that not the way forward?

Research well it's no longer Ark but Oak Os.
Its called Hongmeng in China, internationally " Oak Os"

So why have Huawei trademarked Ark OS and not Oak OS?

Huawei had confirmed quite recently that it is working on its own operating system as an alternative to Android, and thanks to several trademarks that Huawei submitted, we may know the name of that operating system.

The company has trademarked three names with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), including HUAWEI ARK OS, HUAWEI ARK, ARK, and ARK OS. All of these trademarks were filed on May 24, so only a couple of days ago.

These trademarks do not confirm that this is Huawei’s upcoming alternative to Android, of course, but considering that the company confirmed that it is working on that OS, and that its development had to be accelerated due to recent US and Google-related issues, chances are that the OS will be called “Ark OS”.

Most of the major apps are from US companies, so for most people's use the OS is useless

If the Linux environment is anything to go off of.

IF Huawei can build an OS that balances ease of use(UX) and functionality - then it will be as good as any mobile OS available.

Using 3rd part Apps from a US provider may be an issue, but I am sure it easily solvable.

I decided to go and search for trademarks myself.

Ark definitely exists, no record of a trademark of any sort for Oak.

Search for Huawei Oak and you get

When you search for Huawei Ark, you get this

If Oak OS is 60% faster than android, and supports all android apps, I'm looking forward to it! Competition is good for everyone

This is what I hope happens. I hope the ban gets lifted or at least reduced in some form. Then Huawei can still use Android for the time being. This will allow them enough time to work and perfect their OS so they can launch it in 2020 and not be forced to.

I understand Huawei has been working on this OS for years and planned to launch it in 2020 according to Android Authority.

I'd say move away from Android when the time is right. I believe this will be better for Huawei.
