Huawei P8 - hands-on

Pretty!

Will look awesome next to my Mediapad T1 :) Kinda glad I skipped the S6....
 
I'm intrigued by this phone tbh...

Pricing is acceptable, unlike the S6 and such....

We will have to wait for a proper review with performance tests and the like..... but already pricing looks to be R2-3.5k lower than S6. That is a big saving if you are buying for cash!

The pricing is too close to the S6.I have a few issues with Huawei, they arent committed to updates, inferior cpu+gpu and a lack of after sales support in SA. Screenshot_2015-04-16-13-49-35.jpg

Was on a forum and someone is struggling to get a screen replacement but I'm moving from Samsung to Huawei (Ascend Mate7 to be exact) now. I realised I never use most of the features like Smart Stay, Air Gesture, Smart Scroll, etc. What I need is a solid phone with good performance coupled with a premium look that can handle games, movies, e-mails, dual sim, etc, without the insane prices we pay for the likes of Samsung.
 
I just did a side-by-side comparison with the S6. I'm surprised mybb hasn't done this yet - maybe an article for tomorrow, but the impact of the differences needs some interpretation.

The comparison makes the choice very difficult. I like the dual-sim option and the fractionally larger screen of the P8 but I would appreciate the built-in heart monitor of the S6.

I purchased S5 and Z3 compact for girlfriend. We bought the P7 for my mother as it was entry level pricing. Thereafter we both had regrets not purchasing the P7.

Its great phone at great price.
 
P7 dropped to R5499 after 6 months. If the P8 sees the same price drop then I wouldn't mind it.
 
I see S5 is now R7k at Takealot..... Would be a tough choice between that and the P8 now that I think about it. 2yr premium ADH with the S5 too!

P8 will have superior build material though
 
This phone has the same gpu as the S5.It competes with the S5 and not current flagships. It is a good looking phone thou.

I think I would choose the S5 over the P8. Good luck trying to find replacement parts for the P8.You are screwed if you crack the screen.

Huawei are pushing for SA market share at the moment - hopefully their SA after sales improves as well. Now that I am switching from contract to prepaid and buying phones cash, I am struggling to justify paying the premium pricing that Samsung is now asking. As it stands I will choose between S5 or this P8 in the 3rd quarter of this year....
