Without stating the obvious; Have you upgraded to the latest BIOS?

Also, SP2?

In all my battles with USB divers, they were invariably fixed by upgrading the BIOS (first) and then SP2.

BradDC, a colleague of mine had a similar problem with his VIA chipset using a USB video camera - every time he plugged the camera in, it froze the pc. We tried the latest driver updates and spent days fiddling with BIOS updates and every conceivable option. He bought an add-on USB/firewire card thinking his onboard USB was faulty and had the same problem. He then discovered that this add-on board had a VIA chipset also and went and bought a different non-VIA PCI card, disabled the onboard USB and installed the non-VIA USB PCI card. Now all is happy.

Seems like VIA have a problem with some of their USB support.

I also had some strange problem with VIA and USB.

I had a USB ISDN modem and it would work with my VIA motherboard for a while, then after a few hours would just random either freeze my PC or restart my PC. Was very annoying. Returned the USB modem and opted for a PCI modem.

There must be a problem with VIA chipset and USB. Last time I'm buying a VIA motherboard.
